The original form of the alien wood allomorphiabalansaecogn.a.a.k.a.: Xiao Fengmu", Flora of China. Shrub, 1-3 m tall. The stem is quadrangular when young, densely covered with rust-colored chaff and later cylindrical, the chaff falls off, the bark is black, multi-branched, and the nodes are slightly expanded. Leaves are ovate, broadly ovate or oval, thin lanceolate, tapered to caudal tapering, basal round or broad wedge,6.5–19 cm long and 2.5–9 cm wide, nearly full margin or with minimal sparse serrations; 5 basal veins. Flower amphoteric, 4-5 numbers; narrow conical inflorescence composed of polyumbelised inflorescence, born at the tip of the branch, 7-11 cm long and 2-3 cm wide, densely covered with chaff; calyx narrow funnel-shaped, lobed narrow triangle; petals broadly ovate or ovate; stamens anthers are not expanded and spaceless; ovary ovate, with 4 small teeth at the apex. The capsule is oval or nearly round, about 4 mm long and about 3 mm in diameter; the calyx is longer than the fruit, nearly the upper part of the constriction, with 8 longitudinal ribs, and is covered with bran. The flowering period is from June to August, and the fruit period is from October to December.
