Anderson was surprised to find out: not only were multiple witnesses claiming that Maitland was not in town at the time of the murder, but security footage confirmed this.
With the help of private investigator Holly Gibney, Anderson begins to investigate the case in depth, with clues leading the two to the town of Marysville, Texas, with the assistance of a Mexican-American police officer, Yune Sablo, and a white woman living in a Predominantly Latino town, Love Ann Bolton. They find themselves facing the threat of a real monster... The first half of the novel is styled by the police, and the horror and supernatural elements are intensified in the second half.
