Bloomberg reported on November 3 that according to preliminary data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, the number of suicides in the United States in 2020 fell for the second consecutive year.
The data shows that the number of suicides in the United States fell by 3% last year, including a sharp drop in lockdowns due to the epidemic in April. This is the second year that suicides in the U.S. have declined after a 2 percent drop in 2019. Previously, the number of suicides in the United States soared by 35% between 1999 and 2018.
However, the data also reflects some hidden dangers. Despite the overall downward trend, the number of suicides among young men and even adolescents and children has risen, with boys aged 10 to 14 jumping by 13 per cent.
Among them, the highest suicide rates are among men over the age of 75 and 25 to 34. Among women, people aged 45 to 54 have the highest suicide rates, both in 2019 and 2020.
