The Celtics have ensured they will continue to play in the Europa League after Christmas, winning 3-2 in Hungary in the Europa League over Ferencvaros.

Angie Postkoglu's side are now at least guaranteed a place in the next round of the UEFA league if they finish third in Group G, but now they are just one point behind second-placed Real Betis after a second win in the same number of matches.

They took the lead in Hungary when Kyogo Furuhashi scored from 12 yards in 3 minutes, but were soon targeted by a brutal deflection by Josip Zhulanovich on Alexander Zubkov's cross.

Benfica loanee Jota, who showed off his class again, restored the Celtics' advantage in the opening period, starting from the sidelines before kicking off from the inside and beating Adam Bogdan from 25 yards.

Lil Abada seemed to have no doubt about letting the game go in an hour, but the Celtics were determined to do things the tough way, giving Mirto Uzuni too much space for Ferencvaros to get hope in long-range curling four minutes later.

As it turns out, it's just a consolation as the away team has been fighting for victory and knowing that their two wins in the last two games will allow their Europa League activity to continue into the new year.

Celtic fans, who were shut out by the COVID 19 rule, were booed for a knee injury before kickoff, but they silenced the home fans for three minutes.

Abada won the ball when pressing high in the park and leveled for The Ancient Bridge, who pretended to shoot with his right foot and then drove home with his left foot, thus fooling a sliding defender.

Stephen Wales replaced injured Karlstavert in the Celtics' starting line-up and overcame a tough start when he slipped before making a recovery tackle before being cautioned for grabbing Zubkov's face with his hand.

Abada also played a role in the 11th minute equaliser, passing the ball in front of the 18-yard line. The home team passed the ball to Zubkov, whose cross attempt was blocked by Juranovic, only to let the ball bypass Johat into the far corner.

The Celtics regained the lead in the 23rd minute, and a few seconds later Hart saved an oblique angle from the Spirit Civic. Callum McGregor dribbled forward and David Turnbull passed his pass to Jota before the Portuguese winger cut in and fired at a defender and post from 22 yards.

Hart stopped after Uzuny trailed Cameron Carter Wix, but the Celtics looked more likely to score in the first half, with Turnbull coming closest on a long-range shot by former Hibernian goalkeeper Bogdan.

Both sides hit the crossbar in the early stages of the second half, with Tokmack Ngun providing hosts with a long-range shot that took a sharp turn and Anthony Larston headed in with a free-kick from Turnbull.

Kyogo Furuhashi was rejected by the excellent goal line before a direct pass match against Turnbull, and then set up Abada for Celtic's third game on hour markers.

Turnbull started the move by winning the ball back near the midline, and then McGregor fed the old bridge. The Japan international passed the ball to a home run left-back and Abada completed a perfect shot inside the far post.

Angie Postkoglu swapped his top three, with James McCarthy coming off the bench for injured Neil Beaton when the pace dropped.

When substitute Mikey Johnston conceded the ball, Uzuny finished a fantastic curling match and the home team created an exciting ending.

Wales also left the field with injury, with Liam Scapps coming on to help the Celtics cross the line.

Celtic coach Angie Postkoglu: "Our goal is to get three points and keep us alive in the group stage.

'It's all thanks to the players, I think we played really well, scored three great goals and could have had more.
