According to the Guinea News Network, on October 6, local time, Guinea's transitional president Mamadi Tunbuya appointed Guinean diplomat Mohammed Beavoji as prime minister of the transitional government in a decree announced by Guinean national television.

Born in 1953 in Bordakar, Mamu, Guinea, Mohammed Beavoji was a former Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, Senior Advisor to the President of the United Nations Fund for International Agricultural Development (IFAD), and in January 2015, he was appointed Director-General of the African Risk Capacity Agency (ARC).
On September 5, 2021, there was a military coup in Guinea. Mamadi Tunbua, commander of Guinea's special forces, said his forces had detained President Conte and dissolved the government, while setting up a "National Committee for Unity and Development" to take over power. The United Nations, the African Union and other organizations issued statements after the incident, condemning any seizure of power by force.
At a special summit held on 16 September, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) demanded that guinea's coup military leaders make a transition within 6 months, hold elections to restore constitutional order to the country and immediately release Conte.
