Recently taking over the planning of the single-player superhero movie "Blue Beetle" in Warner's DC films, Puerto Rican director Angel Manuel Soto confirmed that he will be responsible for the filming of the film.
Born in 1983, Soto is one of Hollywood's emerging directors, debuting in 2009's horror short film 22 Weeks, where he received several accolades.
Since then, he has been responsible for editing, art, visual effects and other aspects of dragon sets, and has only directed some niche films in very localities.
It wasn't until 2020 that it entered the public eye with the feature film "Street Racing King", which was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 36th Sundance Film Festival.
Soto told TheWrap:
"It's an honor to direct Blue Beetle, DC's first Hispanic superhero film. I sincerely thank Warner and DC Comics for giving me this opportunity to bring him to the big screen. I can't wait to make history with them. ”
The Blue Beetle movie is expected to start filming this fall.
The "Blue Beetle" project was actually announced by Warner in 2018, but I don't know why there was no news after that, the actors and directors were not sure, and the plan seemed to have never existed.
At this point, Warner's sudden announcement of the film's progress is indeed a bit confusing.
After all, the Blue Beetle is not a DC A-list superhero, and I don't understand why Warner is so obsessed with filming him.
Or is it just a pure attempt to be politically correct?
In DC's comics, there are three generations of Blue Beetles, who rely on the alien technology Scarabs that symbiotically thrive within their bodies to generate superpowers.

It is reported that the protagonist of this Warner's single movie will focus on three generations of blue beetle Jaime Reyes, a black-haired boy born in Texas.
Despite being at school age, Reyes has a very strong sense of responsibility for family and friends and is a righteous teenager.
After the death of the second generation blue beetle Ted Coder, the scarab landed in El Paso, Texas, where she was picked up by teenager Jaime. Later, the scarab fused into his spine while Jaime slept, and Jaime became a third-generation blue beetle.
While it's gratifying to see Warner continue to push forward with DC movies, to be honest, as a DC fan, I'm very disappointed with Warner's wave of operations.
Because in this way, the entire DCEU is basically equivalent to nothing.
DC's films are all in single-player combat, and Soto is a new director, the investment in this film will certainly not be too high, Warner is still the Warner, still dreaming of spending small money to make big money.
