It was a few days of shopping and eating, and we were happy because it was finally raining! Humans are happy too, because we are starting to go south again!

Elephant Travel Diary? | to the south, all the way south

A drone from the Forest Fire Brigade of Yunnan Province, which recorded our foraging activities in the farmland of Dalongtan Township in Asan County, said that on this day, my mother took us to move 15 kilometers south; I remember that the day before, we also walked 11.2 kilometers south.

Two days 27 kilometers south, if the direction is not wrong, my mother will no longer take us around the circle, at this speed, in a month, we will really have to return to the happy hometown that my brother has been nagging.

What was that rainforest like that I had never seen before? Because my brother said it so many times, I finally couldn't help but be curious.

My mother was busy, and it was hot before, and she was reluctant to pay attention to my questioning, but her text reviewing the magnificent development history of Asian elephants clearly reads, "An elephant tribe that does not remember the way forward is an elephant tribe with no way out." ”

Today, when the weather was rainy enough, I rubbed over to her and pretended to inadvertently use my nose to turn the text to the page where the sentence was written. Mom looked at me twice, sighed, and said, "If you want to listen, then I'll tell you slowly." ”

She said that our hometown is a place called Xishuangbanna, where the country's tropical ecosystem is best preserved, and she lived in a dense forest called Mengyangzi Conservation Area before she took her uncles and brothers to "drift north".

How beautiful is the sanctuary? Mom couldn't tell. But I know that the birds under the sky seem to like the dense forest—last month, just as I was looking at a little sparrow in the field, my brother, who was born and raised in the reserve, threw his nose in disbelief, and his big eyes were still emotions that I didn't understand, "What's so nice about the little sparrow?" Have you ever seen a peacock pheasant? His tail feathers are set with sapphires! ”

I really haven't seen it, in fact, I don't know what sapphire he said looked like.

I had never seen the snow-white oriole, the rooster like a ball of fire, and the golden sunbird shining all over its body. I have also not seen the bamboo-loving red panda, the white-cheeked gibbon with long arms, the Indochinese tiger walking through the bushes, the bison and leopards drinking water by the river with us.

I haven't seen it, but I already know that the dense forest that so many animals love must be the most beautiful place in the world.

But I was a little puzzled, since the dense forest was so beautiful, why did my mother take us out of there, trekking hundreds of kilometers, to this place called Asan County to nibble on the bud valley of human beings?

Mom said it was because humans had protected our elephant herd so well over the years that the number of elephants living in that dense forest had grown from 190 to 300 over the past few decades. In order for human beings to live better, they began to grow tea and rubber on a large scale, and as a result, the dense forest that began to shrink could not accommodate so many of our elephants, so we came out to find food.

As my mother told these stories, it was getting dark, and as I stumbled behind her, countless questions popped up in my little head: It is human beings who protect us, but it is also human beings who let us leave home? It doesn't make sense!

My mother looked back at me tenderly and said a passage like a philosopher who only pierced all truths, "Every ethnic group has the desire and freedom to pursue a better life, and human beings are the same, what is wrong?" What's right? ”

The night grew darker, and I could hardly see my mother's figure, but I could still hear her voice drifting from the front, as if to say that for thousands of years, we elephants and humans had coexisted in this way.

We are heading south.

Tomorrow, will my mother tell me stories? I'll pester her to tell me more.
