D'Antoni announced that he was leaving the Rockets and not returning

Espn reporter Woj reported that multiple sources revealed that Rockets head coach Mike D'Antoni informed the team owner today that he will become a free man and will not return to coaching next season.

The D'Antonis then issued a statement:

"Very sad and very grateful, my wife Laurel and I are announcing that our incredible journey in Houston is over and we will start a new chapter. The time here is the most memorable experience of our lives. ”

"Most importantly, I would like to thank the entire Fertitta family, Darrell Morey and the team, the exceptionally good, dedicated players I have had the privilege of coaching. The Rockets are an all-time team with the best fans, and we're proud to be part of Houston's success. ”

"Thank you from the bottom of our hearts that we feel like we are real Houstonians, and we will always be grateful."

The Rockets were eliminated by the Lakers 1-4 in the semifinals, and D'Antoni's contract came to an end. He had turned down an early offer for the Rockets to renew his contract before the season began.

Sources revealed that D'Antoni will be one of the 76ers' candidates for the new coach.

D'Antoni has twice won best manager. He coached the Rockets for four seasons, with a record of 217 wins and 102 losses, reaching the Western Conference Finals once and semifinals three times. The Rockets' overall win rate (68.2%) over the past four years is second only to the Raptors (69.5%).

The Rockets have won 28 playoff games in four years, second only to the Warriors (46), Celtics (33) and Raptors (31) in the same period.
