The reporter learned from the official website of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Shandong Province on the 21st that the grassland night moth, also known as the autumn armyworm, has occurred in 100 countries around the world, and is a major migratory pest in the global early warning of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, causing serious losses to many countries. Since the insect moved into southwest and south China in January this year, it has expanded rapidly to the north, and has so far been endangered in 260 counties in 13 provinces (cities, districts) across the country. According to expert analysis, the insect will migrate further northward with the air current, posing a major threat to summer maize and autumn grain production in Shandong Province.
It is understood that the grassland night moth originated in tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas, and from 2016 to 2018, it was introduced to Africa and Asia, and quickly spread the harm in 53 countries. The insect has wide adaptability, strong fecundity, miscellaneous food, long-distance migration, and difficult prevention and control, resulting in a 20% to 30% reduction in crop yields such as corn and sugarcane in Africa and parts of Asia, and the destruction of crops and harvests in heavy cases. The insect prefers to eat corn and other grass crops, and once introduced to Shandong Province, it is very easy to cause outbreak hazards.
Recently, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Shandong Province has deployed the monitoring and prevention and control of grassland moths throughout the province. It is required that all localities comprehensively do a good job in the census and monitoring and early warning of the insect situation, strictly prevent the outbreak of the grassland nightcrawler, ensure the safety of autumn grain production, arrange for capable professional and technical personnel to carry out a census in the jurisdiction, focus on investigating the harm of the insect in the corn, rice and other grass crops and eggplant fruit vegetable planting areas, and comprehensively find out the invasion and harm of the grassland nightcrawler in Shandong Province. Increase the intensity of monitoring, use a variety of means, carry out fixed-point monitoring, combined with field investigation, accurately grasp the occurrence of grassland night moth, and timely release insect forecasts and early warnings.
At the same time, it is required to pay close attention to organizing experts to carry out technical training, and publicize and popularize the knowledge of morphological identification, hazard habits and prevention and control technologies of the grassland moth. Make every effort to do a good job in prevention and control and disposal, requiring all localities to formulate prevention and control plans in advance, fully prepare pesticides, equipment and other prevention and control materials and personnel, and focus on the physical and chemical inducement control of adults and the drug control of pre-three-instar larvae.
