2018 Beijing Daxing Nanhaizi Elk Cultural Conference
It will take place this Friday.
Because of running fast, swimming fast, good at climbing ice and lying on snow,
Daxing will participate in the collection of mascots for the Beijing Winter Olympics with the image of an elk.
Next to the breeze and cicada-like elk park, a large herd of elk either stands on the grass grazing, or plays in the pond, or lies in the shade of the trees to cool off. Bai Jiade, director of the Beijing Elk Ecological Experiment Center, said:
Elk Park has a total of more than 500 acres of land, the water surface area is about 10,000 square meters, elk live here all year round, very adapted to the environment here.
On August 24, 1985, 22 elk flew from Britain to Beijing, returning to nanhaizi, the last place where they disappeared in China, ending a century of overseas chinese and returning to their hometown.
Bhaigard: We now have 37 habitats across the country, and the population of elk has reached about 1,800, and we can now proudly say that the endangered situation of the deer is out of this situation.

Qi Jinli: We will take the elk as the image and actively participate in the collection of mascots for the Winter Olympics, the elk run fast, swim fast, are good at climbing ice and lying on snow, and are athletes. It has a high degree of fit with the spirit of the Olympic Games, and it also holds the beautiful meaning of the pursuit of happiness by Chinese people!
The IUCN believes that the Chinese Elk Reintroduction Project is one of the 15 most successful of the 138 species re-introduction projects in the world. Guo Geng, deputy director of the Beijing Elk Ecological Experiment Center, who has been engaged in wildlife protection for 31 years, believes that the holding of the Elk Culture Conference is to commemorate the great changes that have taken place in the 33 years since the return of elk to Nanhaizi and promote the development of wildlife protection in China.
Guo Geng: Not only has it realized the return from abroad to China, but also realized the return from artificial to nature, so this is the most vivid chinese story and Chinese model we want to tell about ecological civilization, and let more people understand the significance and purpose of nature conservation through the elk conference.
Elk, also known as the "four unlikes", is a rare animal in the world. Because its head and face resemble a horse, its horns resemble a deer, its neck resembles a camel, and its tail resembles a donkey, it is named Four Different.
It is native to the swampy area of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River in China, and was once widely distributed in East Asia. Later, due to natural climate change and human factors, it was nearly extinct in the last years of the Han Dynasty. During the Yuan Dynasty, the remnants of elk were captured and transported to the Royal Hunting Grounds for hunting. By the 19th century, only a group of people remained in the Nanhaizi Royal Hunting Garden in Beijing.
Shortly after its discovery in the West, it was captured by the Eight-Power Coalition and disappeared from China ever since. It was not until 1898 that it was purchased by the British and bred to 255 heads, and in 1985 some individuals were returned to China. More elk have since returned home, and some have been released into the wild.
