Green-winged duck

The green-winged duck belongs to the family Duckidae.

Morphological characteristics

The body length is about 37 cm. The green wing mirror is particularly prominent when flying.

Male: Dark maroon from head to neck, with a broad green band on both sides of the head starting from the eye and extending to the side of the neck. The undertail coverts are black with triangular yellow spots on both sides.

Female: The body feathers are mottled brown and the abdomen is pale.

Winter migratory birds. Groups live in shallow water, feeding on plant seeds and young leaves, insects, molluscs and crustaceans.
