It's official: Ajax signed Newcastle midfielder Sim De Jong

On August 28, Dutch giants Ajax officially announced the signing of Newcastle player Sim De Jong.

Stam had wanted to bring the 28-year-old De Jong to Reading, but was rejected by the player himself, and it is reported that Ajax and Newcastle agreed on a transfer fee of £4 million, and Sim De Jong signed Ajax on a 3-year contract. De Jong debuted in the Ajax Academy, making 244 appearances and scoring 78 goals in his first seven years for Ajax, helping the team win the Dutch Cup in 2010 and then completing the Eredivisie title four times in 2011-14. De Jong has made just 21 appearances after joining Newcastle, scoring one goal and was loaned to Eindhoven last season.
