Marvin Guy, formerly known as Marvin Pentz Gay, Jr., born on April 2, 1939, is a famous singer and composer of Motown Records in the United States, known as the "Prince of Motown", who has a huge influence on many spiritual singers, and can be said to be one of the most respected and loved superstars in the history of black pop music.

Born into a religious family, Marvin Guy was the most talented, fantasist, and enduring star. As motown's best-selling artist, he created "Motown Voice" with a passionate voice. He is able to juggle artistic requirements and commercial success at the same time.

In 1961, he signed a contract with motown, a major black music company at the time, and worked as a drummer in the band of smoky robinson, and subsequently began a solo singing career. Marvin Guy was portrayed as the Prince of Love Songs in Motown, singing a lot of super-best-selling songs. The singer, who was extremely shy on stage, became one of the most outstanding singers in the history of Motown, and was known as the "Prince of Motown".

He emerged in 1962 with a narrative song called "Stubborn Kind of Fellow" and has been active in the forefront of the music scene ever since, becoming a highly influential figure in contemporary black music.

In 1971, he released his masterpiece album What's Going on, which blended his deep-seated beliefs into poverty, social discrimination, drug proliferation, and political corruption; the song featured his brother Fran, who returned from the battlefields of Vietnam

In 1982, Marvin Guy left Motown to join Columbia, releasing his most influential single, "Sexual Healing."
On April 1, 1984, Marvin Guy was shot dead in his home after an argument with his father, just one day after his 45th birthday.
