Morphologically, the larger partridge is 15 to 19 cm long. The overall body shape is more slender, the legs are long, and the standing posture is relatively upright. The upperparts are yellowish brown with dark longitudinal stripes and pale yellow eyebrow lines. The underparts are pale yellow and have fine black longitudinal stripes on the chest. The tail feathers are brown, and the outer tail feathers are white, which are obvious when flying. The eyes are brown; the upper mouth is light brown, the lower mouth is yellowish brown; the feet are yellowish brown, the toes are long, and the hind paws are very long and straight.
Its habits inhabit open plains, meadows, farmland, shrublands, swamps and sparse woodlands, and are sometimes mixed with larks to feed on insects. The flight is wavy and often close to the ground. The breeding season is from May to July, and the nest is on the grassy ground. Traveling birds or summer migratory birds. It is found in the low mountains of Mount Taishan, on the outskirts of the city and in the Wen River Basin.
