"Jose and the Tiger and the Fish" is an adaptation of a short story by Japanese writer Seiko Tanabe, originally published in the June 1984 issue of Kadokawa Monthly, and later in the Kadokawa Shoten's collection of short stories. It was also adapted in 2003 as a live-action film of the same name starring Satoshi Ikewaki and others.
Tanabe's works are mainly romance novels, and he has won many literary awards, including the Wasagawa Literature Prize, and is one of the recipients of the "Order of Culture", such as "Sad Travel", "Strange Tea", "Shingenji Monogatari" and so on.
