Begonia "deadly insect" - aphid control method

Begonia trees are prone to aphid damage in the summer, and this article mainly uses aphid control methods, hoping to bring help to everyone.

[1] Morphological characteristics

The body length of wingless adult aphids is generally 1.5-1.9 mm, and the body color is mostly yellow in summer, and mostly blue-green or blue-black in spring and autumn, and the surface is covered with wax powder. Winged adults are 1.2–1.9 mm long, yellow or pale green in color, and have 3–4 pairs of black spots on either side of the dorsal surface of the abdomen, and some also have 2–3 black intermittent transverse bands. The eggs are oval in shape, orange-yellow to dark brown in color, and shiny.

[2] Hazard characteristics

Mainly to adult and aphids sucking on the sap of leaves, young stems and young branches, the parts of begonias that are harmed by aphids turn brown, causing the leaves to shrink, the young shoots to bend, and the flower buds to shrink, which seriously affects the growth and flowering of new branches.

[3] Occurrence law

In the south-central region of Hebei Province, 10 generations occur in 10 generations per year, and eggs overwinter in the bud axils or in the cracks on the branches. In the following year, when the buds germinate, they hatch, initially clustered on the dewy buds, the leaf spread period is concentrated on the front of the young leaves, the winged aphids begin to appear in early May, transfer to other hosts after June, move back to the pear tree in September and October, and begin to produce sexual aphids in late October, and cross tails and spawn overwinter.

[4] Prevention and control methods

1. Timely pruning. The diseased dead branches and leaves where the aphids inhabit or the eggs have been latent are completely removed and burned in a concentrated manner.

2. Pharmaceutical control: In the early stage of insect pests, it is recommended to use Qilin Zhiru, choose a windless sunny day to dilute the medicine 500-600 times liquid for spray control.
