Kunming, April 24 (Xinhuanet) -- "I, in less than a year, have done something unforgettable! Wang Yating, the leader of the first graduate teaching team of Yunnan Normal University, recalled a special life experience and couldn't help but feel a little excited.
On August 3, 2014, a sudden 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck Hard at Ludian, Yunnan Province, and the town of Longtoushan was the worst hit by the earthquake, and the town's Longquan Middle School was unable to escape it. In September 2015, Yunnan Normal University set up a postgraduate teaching team to clearly send the research branch to Longtoushan Town to support teaching, and Wang Yating, who was still preparing for the graduate school, resolutely joined the research branch and led the members to Longquan Middle School as the team leader.

"When I arrived in Longtoushan Town in September 2015, I saw an entire patch of relief tents. Although the teachers and students of Longquan Middle School moved from the temporary banfang school to the new campus in the new semester, the living conditions were still very difficult. Wang Yating said that in the days of Longquan Middle School, the members of the research group completed the teaching tasks with quality and quantity, but also actively carried out various activities to enrich the campus life of the students, and made a contribution to the children after the disaster through home visits, warmth, fundraising and other ways.

Teach with heart
Classroom teaching is the most important work content of every member of the research group in the life of volunteer teaching in one year. "After arriving at Longquan Middle School, I was not only a volunteer, but also a teacher, not to mention the bloodshed, but I must be conscientious in teaching the children." Wang Yating said that due to the shortage of English teachers in the school, she also took two classes of English classes in the first grade to study dance studies.
When teaching, Wang Yating will pay attention to broadening students' horizons, using interesting and vivid teaching content and cases to improve students' learning interest; after class, she will actively participate in the teaching work seminar of Longquan Middle School, the activities of various scientific research groups, and make up for her own shortcomings by listening to lectures and taking the initiative to ask for advice; in the team, she will carry out weekly mutual help discussions with members, listen to each other's lectures, correct each other, and learn from each other, while enhancing cohesion, but also further improve their own teaching level.
"Facing the thirsty eyes under the podium, I feel a great responsibility." This is the unanimous feeling of the members of each research group.

Fulfill your dreams with love
The "Cloud Dream Project" home visit activity is a "daily project" for the members of the research group. Due to the particularity of rural family education, the members of the research group will understand the family situation of each student through home visits, and popularize the importance of learning for parents. ”
"I remember a home visit, we used three kinds of transportation, it took three hours to reach Liu Dengneng's home, there was a walking slope of nearly 90 degrees, we were all hands and feet and land on the road." Wang Yating said that Liu Deng could accidentally fall into the brazier when he was 9 months old, because the family's economic conditions were limited, so he let his grandfather, who knew a little medical skills, look at it, and his face and hands were left with permanent scars. "Although the years have left him with a tragic experience, he has never given up on any opportunity to learn, and his optimism and confidence in life have shocked us." At the end of the home visit, he pulled another volunteer teacher to carefully learn a unit of words, and then reluctantly said goodbye to us. Speaking of this, Wang Yating was a little choked up.
Wang Yating introduced that every home visit of each research group will carry out the "My Family Portrait" photo commemorative activity to take their own family portraits for the families visited. On the family portrait wall of the research branch activity classroom, the children's young faces and the simple smiles of every parent have become the motivation for the research group to persist in every home visit.
In addition, the research group will also carry out various public welfare activities, such as celebrating the collective birthday of left-behind children, carrying out the Mid-Autumn Festival mooncake collection, fundraising water dispenser activities, and creating a Longquan Book Corner, etc. Members hope to create a vibrant and loving cultural atmosphere for the school with their own modest efforts.

Teachable to grow
"There are always small gifts hanging at the door of our dormitory, and students often make us small surprises." Wang Yating said that especially when everyone is about to leave at the end of the volunteer teaching period, every day when the door is opened, I will always see small notes left by students on the ground, and my heart is full of reluctance and warmth.
80% of the nearly 3,000 students in Longquan Middle School are left-behind children, "they are very simple and very cute, we are willing to try various ways to take them to know some new things, broaden their horizons, let them develop good study habits, establish the determination of knowledge to change their destiny, and summon up the courage to pursue a better life." Wang Yating said, "This is a period of 'teaching while teaching, while being taught' days, every activity, you can always feel the joy of getting along with your classmates; every time you go to class, you can always feel the sacredness of the teacher's mission; every home visit, you can always feel the difficulty of life." Looking back now, although there are various hardships in the life of volunteer teaching in one year, it is more about harvest, happiness and growth. I'm glad I had one such experience in my life. 'Go to the west, go to the grassroots level, and go to the place where the motherland needs it most', I believe this sentence has been deeply rooted in the hearts of every member of the research group. ”

After graduating from graduate school, Wang Yating hopes to become a dance teacher and continue to hone in grass-roots positions. At present, she is also actively preparing for the exam, and she is always concerned about the research group, and will often communicate with the members of each session and continue to do what she can. She said that since the establishment of the first research group of Yunnan Normal University in September 2015, four batches of 20 volunteers have gone to Longquan Middle School to carry out volunteer teaching work.
