author:User 3851154844

A few days ago, the staff of the Beijing Inspection and Quarantine Bureau intercepted 1 package of animal teeth sent from Japan in the inbound mail, a total of 5 pieces and weighed 0.4 kg. Among them, 1 original tooth is about 15 cm long; the other 4 pieces have been processed into a mouthpiece shape, all of which are about 10 cm.

Identified by experts from the Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the teeth of this batch are sperm whale teeth. The inspection and quarantine personnel have intercepted and handled it in accordance with the law and issued a notice of interception to the cargo owner. This is the first time that such items have been intercepted at the Beijing Postal Inspection Port.

Sperm whales are an Appendix I species of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and are also part of the IUCN Red List, making them vulnerable like ring-tailed lemurs and pandas. China Guomen Times
