Since 2019, defendant Zhang has become interested in raising insects and animals, and the most interesting thing for him is an arthropod, a spider. At the end of 2019, Zhang accidentally found that there were bird-catching spiders for sale on a second-hand trading website, and in the process of chatting with the seller, he learned that one of the bird-catching spiders sold was a Mexican red-knee spider. Due to the relatively small number of this spider, it belongs to the protected species listed in the international convention CIETS Convention. After inquiring about the relevant knowledge and knowing that the Mexican red-knee spider is an animal protected by international conventions, Zhang reached a transaction with the seller at a price of 50 yuan for this spider and 5 other bird-catching spiders.
After arriving at the case, Zhang confessed to the illegal and criminal acts, had a good attitude of admitting guilt, and actively assisted the law enforcement case-handling personnel in finding the seller of the transaction. In the end, the court sentenced Zhang to four months' detention, four months' probation, and a fine of RMB 3,000 for the crime of illegally purchasing rare and endangered wild animals.
A few spiders, 50 yuan, seems to be a small case, but it reflects the big truth. No cyberspace is a place outside the law, and even hidden criminal acts will eventually escape the punishment of the law, do not hold a fluke mentality and test the edge of the law. Man and nature should live in harmony, respect nature, protect biodiversity, and do not let human selfish "love" become "harm" to endangered animals.
