Today (19 November) is the eighth World Toilet Day. In 2020, the theme of World Toilet Day is "Sustainable Sanitation and Climate Change". Warming, pandemics, human health, and sustainable development are all closely related to toilets. The theme of this year's World Toilet Day demonstrates the importance of "Sustainable Sanitation and Climate Change".
According to a report by the World Health Organization, 40% of the world's population currently does not have access to reasonable public health facilities, making infectious diseases rampant and claiming 2 million lives every year.
People spend three years of their lives in the toilet
"Toilets" are not a difficult topic, they are closely related to our lives. As you may not know, everyone goes to the toilet about 6 to 8 times a day, and about 2500 times a year.
Everyone spends an average of 3 years of their life in the toilet, and women spend longer.
According to the World Health Organization, 2.5 billion people worldwide lack modern toilet facilities.
The number of infectious diseases has declined, and the transformation of rural toilets is closely related
According to statistics, in 1993, the penetration rate of sanitary toilets in rural areas in China was 7.5%, intestinal infectious diseases and parasitic diseases related to feces accounted for more than 70% of the total number of infectious diseases, 490 million people were infected with roundworms, 200 million people were infected with hookworms, and there were more than 1.13 million schistosomiasis patients. In 2019, fecal-related intestinal infectious diseases and parasitic diseases accounted for 1/3 of the total number of infectious diseases, and the infection rate of soil-derived nematode diseases (roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, etc.) was 1.4%. The number of patients with intestinal infectious diseases in China is 3.4052 million, the number of patients with schistosomiasis is 113, and the number of soil-derived nematode infections is less than 20 million. The decline in the number of infectious diseases in China is closely related to the continuous improvement of grass-roots environmental sanitation facilities such as rural toilets.
Well-off is not well-off Toilets count as a pile
"A pit with two bricks and a three-foot earthen wall surrounds four sides." There are many flies and mosquitoes, polluting the environment, and people's physical and mental health is also affected. This is a true portrayal of rural toilets in China in the past. Nowadays, "small toilets" are connected to "big people's livelihood", and a rural "toilet revolution" is launched throughout the country.
In December 2018, the Central Agricultural Office, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Health Commission and other 8 ministries and commissions jointly issued the Guiding Opinions on Special Actions to Promote the "Toilet Revolution" in Rural Areas. The overall idea, task objectives, and safeguard measures were clarified. Sorted out the problems that exist or may occur in rural toilets.
In 2019, the central government alone invested 7 billion yuan for the rural toilet revolution, and in 2020, nearly 10 billion yuan was invested to increase the intensity of the rural toilet revolution, and in the process of rural toilet transformation, various localities also gave policy and financial support accordingly to continuously improve the quality of life of farmers. As of now, the penetration rate of sanitary toilets in rural areas in China has exceeded 65%. The "toilet revolution" brought new changes to the countryside.
