The gills of the gill family, aquarium enthusiasts and merchants call it the Thunder Dragon Fish. And because the top of its head is smooth, the fish's snout is slightly pointed, and the upper and lower jaw openings are larger, resembling snakes, so merchants and enthusiasts in Taiwan are also called snakehead fish. Say that the thunder dragon fish or snakehead fish many people may not understand, then in other words, blackfish, may suddenly realize that in some ways, they are the same kind of creatures, we often say that the blackfish in the ornamental fish market is called snakehead.

The distribution of fish in the family is also relatively widespread around the world, from Southeast Asia to Africa, with a wide variety, and the number of unknown species discovered every year is increasing.
The size of the thunder dragon fish is very different, the difference is very large, the small one has the colorful thunder dragon, etc., the adult is about 15-18cm, the medium type has the rainbow thunder dragon (southern snakehead), the ruby thunder dragon and the sapphire thunder dragon, etc., the adult is about 25-30cm, the large one has the colorful walrus, the small shield snakehead, etc., the maximum adult body length can easily exceed 80cm.

the water quality requirements for raising Thunder dragons

Most Arowana do not have very high requirements for water quality conditions, preferring weaker currents, weak acid to neutral soft water. Thunder Arowana prefers old water, Thunder Arowana is generally single culture, so as long as the filtration is normal, there is no need to change the water too diligently, or change the water a small amount each time.
The water temperature for raising Arowana is generally maintained between 18 and 28 degrees. The acceptance of the water temperature by the cultivated Thunder Dragon is still very high, too low or too high may have uncomfortable performance, but it will rarely die, and the most feared thing is the sudden change in water temperature, rapid heating or cooling.

polyculture of Arowana

Thunder dragon fish is a carnivorous predatory fish, the temperament is generally more ferocious, so it is generally not recommended to polyculture, if you have to polyculture, it is recommended to carry out large-density polyculture in the juvenile, weaken and suppress its territorial awareness, or can be paired with male and female breeding, and set up a place in the tank for the weak to hide. In addition, when mixing male and female pairs, it is necessary to pay attention to entering the cylinder at the same time, and observe whether there is a fight, if the fight is strong, it is recommended to use a net partition to separate, so that it can adapt to each other's habits and then try to raise the cylinder together.
< h1 class= "pgc-h-arrow-right" > the arrangement of the Arowana feeding tank

Regarding the feeding tank of Arowana, most of the owners will choose a naked tank feeding in order to be able to better appreciate its brilliant body color performance and swimming posture, and the use of drip filtration is generally similar to the feeding of arowana, and the observation of the fish in the tank can be more careful, and it is also convenient for the maintenance of the feeding tank.
Another breeding method is to raise Thundersaurus in grass tanks. This makes the overall look more ornamental. It's just that because the thunder dragon is generally larger, even the smallest adult body has 15cm, plus the thunder dragon generally has the habit of turning sand and foraging, so we generally choose the climbing growth of aquatic grass, which can be directly tied to the sunken wood or stone, and the thunder dragon does not need strong light or likes yin or dislikes strong light, so we generally choose some negative aquatic plants. Generally it is Moss, water banyan tree, fern and so on.
< h1 class= "pgc-h-arrow-right" > water fixation for wild individuals

Although many of the offspring on the market are now artificially bred, but there is no shortage of individuals collected from the wild, these individuals due to some improper measures at the time of collection, more or less have some damage, coupled with transportation and environmental changes, many will die because of stress response, then buy back wild individuals, how to raise water is a problem worth paying attention to.
Try to imitate the wild environment in which it lives. Thunder arowana generally live in similar and slow-flowing lakes or still water ponds, with a large number of duckweed, pepper grass and other aquatic grasses.
So we can prepare a quarantine tank, filter with a water goblin, add some duckweed to the surface of the water, throw a few water orchids, iron crowns, etc. at the bottom of the water, and then put the bought back thunder dragon fish into it, rest, don't bother it, you can add a small clip light that is not very strong to simulate the dim light under the water.
After three to five days, you can try to throw a number of mosquito-eating fish, Zhu Wenjin and other small fish to see if they are chasing food, if the next day finds that there are fewer fish, then the problem is not big.
Generally speaking, when we find that the injured part begins to heal and grow, the protective color disappears, and the time of lying on the bottom is significantly reduced, then it basically means that the thunder dragon has been successful in fixing water, at least there is no problem in short-term breeding.
In addition, it should be noted that when chasing food in the water, it is best to add a tank cover, thunder dragon fish is very fond of jumping tank fish, who will not want to get up the next day love fish has been lying on the ground to become dried fish.

about feeding

Thunder dragon belongs to omnivorous organisms, so the acceptance of food is still very high, especially partial meat, all kinds of granular fish food, dried shrimp, frozen shrimp, loach and other live foods can be accepted.
But according to my personal understanding, thunder dragons and turtles are similar, there is no sense of fullness, in the stomach bulging time will still ask for food, although some of the same like fish fat, but too fat will also affect the ornamental, and may cause gastrointestinal problems and violent death, there is a thunder dragon fish fat up after it is difficult to slim back, so, feed the right amount.

first aid after jumping

Thundersaurus is a curious but very timid fish, sensitive to changes in the environment, so it is easy to jump when water quality shocks or fright occur.
Sometimes we wake up the next day to find the fish lying on the ground dying, at this time many aquarists will think that the fish can not be saved, and directly give up treatment.
In fact, thunder dragons belong to the gills and can endure a waterless state for a long time. When you find the fish lying on the ground, please do not pick it up immediately, because after a long period of dehydration, the surface of the fish kick is likely to stick to the ground, and if the fish is forcibly picked up, it may cause additional damage to the surface of the fish.
The first thing we have to do is take a watering can and spray water on the body of the fish and the parts connected to it, wet it so that it detaches on its own, and then we can pick up the fish from the ground.
At this time, the fish body may be stained with a lot of dust and other dirty things, remember not to use a rag to wipe off, because the mucus on the surface of the fish body is the outermost layer of protection, after wiping off, it is easy to cause infection, increase the difficulty of treatment, and even likely to die. The dust will fall off on its own after entering the cylinder. After picking up the fish from the ground, do not put it directly into the tank, as it is very likely to drown. The right thing to do is to choose a spare tank or container, put the fish in, and submerge one-third of the height of the fish body with the water in the original tank. Observe slowly, if the fish is still alive, he will gradually begin to move and breathe slowly, and then try to add water slowly. It is also worth noting that do not oxygen during the whole process, because a prolonged lack of water will burn the tail and fins of the dragon, and the oxygen will destroy the calm of the water body, making it more difficult to control the balance.
