Zhao Ziyue was born in July 1909 in Guxian County, Shanxi. In 1940, he became the artistic director and deputy director of the Taihang Mountain Theater Troupe. In 1950, he played the role of hei lao Cai, secretary of the district party committee and guerrilla leader in "The Legend of the New Children's Heroes", and won the third prize medal for excellent films from 1949 to 1955 issued by the Ministry of Culture. In 1951, he was transferred to the Beijing Film Studio and in 1951, he was transferred to the Beijing Film Studio, and served as the head of the Beijing Film Actors Troupe. By 1994, he had participated in the filming of fifty films and more than thirty TV series, playing many supporting roles, performing simple and natural, not carving, and shaping many characters with distinct personalities.
In his screen image, in addition to playing the main role in "Icing on the Cake" and "Making Money", almost all of his roles are supporting roles. In 1985, he was elected Honorary President of the Academy of Performing Arts. In 1991, he won the Special Honor Award of the Third "Academy Award" of the Academy of Film Performing Arts; in 2005, he was one of the 100 outstanding actors in the 100 years of film. In 1961, in the performance of "The Tempest", he grasped the intonation changes of the phrase "almost inseparable" on different occasions, and accompanied by subtle facial expressions and movements, fully revealed the rich psychological activities of the old sun head. Zhao Ziyue died of illness in 1997.
