Recently, a piece of news spread on the Internet: after eating antihypertensive drugs and grapefruit, 60-year-old Aunt Wang in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, actually had hypotensive shock, fortunately, she was sent to the hospital in time to turn the crisis into safety. In this regard, doctors remind grapefruit and many drugs have interactions, and may even have serious side effects, the public should pay more attention when eating such fruits.
Today, the reporter saw in a supermarket in Zhenhai that there were many grapefruits on the fruit stalls. The sales staff told reporters that it is the season when grapefruit is listed in large quantities, and it is the best period for appreciating the taste in terms of moisture, sweetness and taste.
Grapefruit is on the market in large quantities
"Did you know that grapefruit and some drugs taken at the same time can cause adverse reactions?" The reporter randomly interviewed several customers who were picking fruits, and most of them said they had never learned about this knowledge. "We've been selling fruit for so many years, and we've never heard that eating grapefruit can have a bad effect on your body." Supermarket salespeople also expressed doubts.
In this regard, Le Yunmin, deputy director of the Longsai Branch of Longsai Medical Group in Zhenhai District, answered questions:
Grapefruit, also known as grapefruit, is a hybrid variety of orange and grapefruit, juicy and delicious, rich in nutrients and trace elements. However, the rich furancoumarin in grapefruit will inhibit the activity of certain metabolic enzymes in the body and reduce the body's ability to metabolize drugs.
Pharmacists keep these reminders in mind
"The role of metabolic enzymes is similar to that of a porter, the activity of enzymes is inhibited, which is equivalent to the number of porters becoming less, the drug causes accumulation in the body, and the pharmacological effect increases at the same time, it will also cause adverse reactions of many drugs." Le Yunmin said.
At present, studies have shown that more than 85 drugs will be affected by grapefruit, about half of which may cause serious adverse reactions, including sleeping pills and anti-cancer drugs used by some special patients, as well as antihypertensive drugs, antibacterial drugs, painkillers and so on that many people often eat.
These drugs may have adverse reactions when taken with grapefruit
"Common antihypertensive drugs such as felodipine and nifedipine may induce hypotension after taking grapefruit, mild dizziness and weakness, severe may be coma, and even induce angina and myocardial infarction." Le Yunmin said, "There are also our commonly used lipid-lowering drugs such as atorvastatin, simvastatin, and grapefruit after taking together may cause liver damage, and some will also have symptoms of rhabdomyolysis such as myalgia and muscle weakness, and may even produce acute kidney failure." ”
It should be noted that all drugs in each of the above categories are not necessarily affected, and the adverse reactions of different people may also be different, depending on the individual's constitution, the medication taken and the amount of grapefruit consumed, and should not be blindly referred to by others.
Le Yunmin reminded that in order to ensure the safety of medication, patients must carefully read the drug instructions before taking the drug, or consult with the doctor about the precautions.
