It is found in South America, including Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, and the Malvinas Islands (also known as the Falkland Islands).
According to the Science Alert website, Brazil has once again discovered one of the rarest bird species on Earth after months of searching.
This small bird, called the Scythorn whiskered bird, is medium in size, has a long tail, and has the iconic bristles on its forehead, and its call is special. Scientists believe that there are only a few birds left in the world.
The Scythorn has only been found in a small area of eastern Brazil, first in the 1830s.
This rare bird was first seen in the mid-20th century, disappeared for half a century, and was most recently discovered in 1995.
The Scythorn-whiskered bird is listed on the IUCN Red List of Birds – Critically Endangered.
