According to foreign media reports such as the British BBC and the Daily Mail, on the 25th local time, the CEO (CEO) of a Canadian gaming company with a market value of nearly $2 billion announced his resignation, after he and his wife were accused of violating isolation regulations and "cutting in line" to get vaccinated by deceptive means.

On Jan. 19, Rod Baker, the chief executive of a Canadian bookmaker, and his wife, Catherine, arrived in Whitehorse, the capital of the Yukon, and chartered a private jet to the remote Beaver Creek community two days later, violating a 14-day self-quarantine rule.

The Beaver Creek community is home to many Aboriginal people, with a population of less than 125 people, located near the U.S.-Canada border. The data shows that vaccination rates are faster in the region than in other parts of Canada. So the couple pretended to be local motel staff to get the local COVID-19 vaccine.

Locals, however, were skeptical and called the motel to confirm that the couple did not work there. Law enforcement officers responsible for enforcing the Civil Emergency Measures Act stopped them at Whitehorse Airport as they prepared to leave.

Both received two fines: one for not self-isolating, and the other for not complying with the statement they signed, adding up to a fine of $1,150 (about 5,800 yuan) each. But both the indigenous people and the public felt that punishment was not enough.

Yukon Community Services Minister John Stricker said: "I am outraged by this selfish behaviour. We didn't expect anyone to go so far to scam. ”

Meanwhile, White River Aboriginal leader Angela Demeter wrote on her Facebook page: "There are people who, for selfish purposes, put our elderly and vulnerable at risk, and we are deeply concerned about their behavior. ”

On January 25, the Canadian bookmaker announced Baker's resignation. According to the company's public financial documents, his total annual salary in 2019 was 10.6 million Canadian dollars (about 53.75 million yuan).

Baker's wife, Catherine, an actress, has also urged her fans on Instagram to respect the rules of coronavirus lockdown.
