Residents of Tianxin Community in Sungang Street, Luohu District, Shenzhen City, put a young crocodile picked up as a pet and raised it at home, and as the crocodile gradually grew, it became more and more panicked about safety.
A few days ago, the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Planning and Natural Resources, together with the Shenzhen Wildlife Park, rescued the crocodile and confirmed that it was a Siamese crocodile, a national first-class wild protected animal.
According to the resident, his family picked up a young crocodile a few years ago and felt curious, so they kept it in their home and built a pond for it on the roof of the building.
In recent years, as crocodiles have grown up and hidden safety hazards have become prominent, they have built barbed wire around crocodile ponds, but they still feel uneasy, so they seek help from the Shenzhen Marine Fisheries Management Department.
After receiving the notice of rescue and investigation from the Fishery Management Department of the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Planning and Natural Resources, the Luohu Management Bureau of the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Planning and Natural Resources, together with the Shenzhen Municipal Marine Comprehensive Law Enforcement Detachment and the Shenzhen Wild Animal Park, came to the resident's home for verification.
After on-site investigation, the crocodile was larger. The crocodile pond is deep, and the three sides of the pool are closed by barbed wire, so it was immediately decided to release water while cutting the iron net out of the one-person size entrance, which was entered by two rescuers from the wildlife park, and the crocodile was hoisted to the edge of the pool with a rope and sealed. During this period, the crocodile resisted fiercely and tried to bite the rescuers many times. After a thrilling experience, rescuers finally calmed and subdued the crocodile.
The crocodile species was verified to be a Siamese crocodile with a body length of about 190 cm and a body width of about 30 cm. The Siamese crocodile can reach up to 4 meters in adulthood, but because its leather has a high reputation in the world, it has been hunted and killed, and in recent years it has almost become extinct in the wild, and it belongs to the important protected species in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, and is a first-class wild protected animal in China.
Law enforcement officers of the Shenzhen Marine Comprehensive Law Enforcement Detachment conducted rule of law education for the citizens and their families. The Luohu Management Bureau of the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Planning and Natural Resources transferred the crocodile to the Shenzhen Wild Animal Park for professional conservation in accordance with the procedures.
The Luohu Management Bureau said that it will strengthen the publicity of the protection of aquatic wild protected animals, enhance the public's awareness of protection, and do a good job in the protection and management of aquatic wildlife in the jurisdiction.
