Overview of the Locust Family (On Acrididae)

Bark Mimicking Grasshopper (Coryphistes ruricola) – A locust in the Catantopinae subfamily

The locust family is a family of the orthoptera locust family Acridoidea. This family is the largest family in the order Orthoptera, accounting for about 10,000 of the 11,000 species of caelifera, accounting for about 91%. Locust species in the locust family are easy to identify, and the locusts that fly in groups and gather are generally in the locust family. Morphologically, the most prominent features of the locust family are their short antennae; the tympana (tympana) is located on both sides of the 1st ventral segment, which is their auditory organ. Sometimes, the subfamily Silkhorn locust (Oedipodinae, Inner Mongolian pinnate) is divided into another family under the locust family, the Oedipodidae.
