Taxonomic status: Chordate phylum Rayfin Fish Genus Parachondidae of the family Sheepfish

Geographical distribution: Distributed from the east coast of Africa to the central Pacific Islands, Taiwan Island and The Paracel Islands, it belongs to tropical and subtropical near-shore demersal fish.

Living habits: warm water coral reef fish, body length of 110 ~ 280 mm, rare, mainly inhabit the depth of 1-80 meters deep warm to the sea reef slope reef area, lagoon and other inner and outer mud sand. During the day, he swims alone or in groups of three or five on the sandy mud field full of hairy and crustaceans, using keen tentacles to explore the food hidden in the sand mud; when the night comes, he sleeps quietly alone on the flat sand mud.

Morphological characteristics: the body is long and oval, the head is larger, short and blunt, the top is more raised, the tentacles are thick and short, the posterior end does not reach the posterior edge of the gill cover, and the body is elongated and slightly flattened, long spindle-shaped. The head is slightly larger, the mouth is small, the snout is long and blunt, the upper jaw only reaches the center of the snout, the posterior edge is obliquely curved, the upper and lower jaws have single row teeth, the teeth are larger, blunter, the arrangement is sparser, the hoe bone and the palate are toothless, with a pair of chin whiskers, and the end reaches the rear of the orbit.
