According to Reuters, a team of Scientists from Germany who specialize in surveying Madagascar has discovered a tiny new species of chameleon in the northern part of the region, the size of a sunflower seed, known as "Brookesia nana" or "nano chameleon." The nano chameleon can be called a close relative of the "Brookesia micra", which was discovered as early as 2012, also known as the "dwarf leaf chameleon".

The head of the Bavarian Zoological Collection in Munich said the male nano-chameleon was only 13.5 millimeters (0.53 inches) long and had a total length of less than 22 millimeters (0.87 inches) from nose to tail, making it the smallest of all the 11,500 known reptile species. In contrast, the female nano-chameleon is significantly larger, including the tail, and her total length is 29 mm. As a result, the habitat of this lizard is also very small and difficult to find.

The expedition said that despite the scientists' efforts to find more biological specimens for study, there was still no way to do it.

Oliver Hawlitschek, a scientist from hamburg's Natural History Centre, said: "The habitat of nano-chameleons was once unfortunately deforested, almost leading to their extinction. But recently their habitat has been placed under state protection, and the species will hopefully continue to survive. ”
