The following is an excerpt from the speech:

Distinguished leaders, distinguished guests, all my colleagues! It is a great honor for Lao Hu to be able to participate in such an important Internet conference and have the opportunity to speak.

I think the positive performance of the Western media since the outbreak of the epidemic is really disappointing, the most important thing is that the epidemic in the United States is so severe, the death rate has approached 690,000 people, and last week it also infected an average of 120,000 people per day, and there were 2,000 deaths in a single day. But the United States is politically indifferent to this situation as a whole, and the country is clearly moving towards cold social Darwinism, and isn't the American media the fourth power? I want to see that AMERICAN public opinion has basically not played a role in stopping the wrong anti-epidemic route. American public opinion obviously has all kinds of voices, but those voices really don't say nothing, they say nothing, they say it is white, everyone says is this the case? Moreover, I think their overall role is much smaller than the impact of Chinese Internet public opinion on the national anti-epidemic policy.

In the past, we all thought that Western public opinion was very powerful and powerful, but now we find that they seem to be quite intimidated and powerless. So I asked – "Where has the Western media gone with such a terrible epidemic?!" "The relationship between Chinese public opinion and the entire social system is not the same as that of the West, and perhaps we should not make a comparison here, but this comparison actually happens every day." Well, if you have to compare, I think the timing effect should not be bypassed.

In China, an ordinary netizen and an up-and-up master are likely to create a focus of public opinion, sometimes playing a greater role than Western big-name hosts or columnists. I'm not engaged in the theory of public opinion dissemination, and I can't figure out what this is all about, but I can feel the difference between this power.

The Western system seems to me too resilient, and as long as a party is elected, it has the political capital to despise criticism and be stingy. In fact, I know that the United States and Western countries have their own national conditions, and they cannot do such an organized fight against the epidemic in China, and the reason why I criticize them in this way is because they always accuse us very harshly, and the anti-lip attack and anti-tongue confrontation are what media people like Lao Hu must do.

If you all talk well, I always feel that China and the West have their own strengths, and they should respect each other and learn from each other's strengths. Nowadays, it is globalization, the Internet has closely linked different societies together, and everyone looks at each other and feels like a mirror. Who has any strengths, what deficiencies, who can not see it?

Like China, now almost no one has died because of the new crown epidemic, and the United States still dies 2,000 people a day, we must know that the population of the United States is only 1/4 of China, according to the proportion of China, you think, is more? So which is good, is this not clear?

But you see, the mainstream public opinion in the United States is constantly looking for China's stubble, but I think some false statements are still quite sad. To tell the truth, I don't want Chinese and American public opinion to be afraid of each other like this, in the past, Chinese and American public opinion also introduced each other's social strengths, especially China's side introduced a lot of American strengths. Now, we focus on each other's shortcomings and jokes, and the more we expose each other's ugly reports, the more popular they are.

I think that the chinese and American public opinion has formed a "scolding war" against each other, just like a big whirlpool, involving a lot of resources and energy of both sides, and the biggest driving force and responsibility for this situation is indeed the United States.

I really hope that the public opinion war between China and the United States and between China and the West can be loosened a little, which is in the common interest of human society. Of course, then again, we all live in reality, and when the elites of the United States and the West launch round after round of public opinion war against us, they don't expect Chinese public opinion forces like the Global Times to shrink back. Thank you!
