Recently re-read "Awakening to the Everlasting Word", there is a story, intriguing.
During the Tang Dynasty, there was a recorder surnamed Xue.
Once, suffering from a high fever due to illness, in a groggy sleep, he dreamed that he had turned into a golden carp, jumped into the water, and met an old man fishing in a boat.
At this time, because I had not eaten for several days, I was hungry in my stomach, and the smell of the bait was really tempting.
Just when he wanted to eat, he suddenly realized:
"There are hooks in this bait, and if I eat them, I will be caught by him." I'll go somewhere else to find something to eat. ”
So, while wandering around the boat in search of food, he secretly rejoiced that he was rational and shrewd.
But the bait was very fragrant, and over time, the aroma went straight into the intestines, and the stomach was indeed too hungry.
After much hesitation, and finally unable to resist the temptation of bait incense, he still opened his mouth to bite the hook.
Without any suspense, the fish immediately left the water and was thrown into the fishing basket.
At the end of the story, Feng Menglong commented: "The eyes are broken, and the stomach can't bear it." ”
Life is also the same principle, knowing that you can't do it, you will lose very badly in the end.
Like the fish that could not resist the temptation of bait, greedy for a moment, lost a lifetime of freedom.
Discernment in the eyes requires sober judgment; patience in the stomach requires super self-control.
If you want to live this life well, two abilities are indispensable.

I can't see it in my eyes, but I can't bear it in my stomach
"Han Feizi" has clouds:
"If people have desires, they will plan chaotically, and if they have chaotic plans, they will have desires, and if they have desires, evil hearts will win, evil hearts will win, and if things are exhausted, disasters will be difficult to live."
Once people can't see reality clearly and can't control themselves, they will confuse their minds and cause disasters to their upper bodies.
There is a story in "Dream of the Red Chamber" about Wang Xifeng setting up the Xiangsi Bureau to rectify Jia Rui, who is plotting against her.
When people comment on Wang Xifeng's fierce heart, they should also reflect on whether Jia Rui is brewing bitter fruit.
As soon as Jia Rui saw Wang Xifeng, he went to talk as if he had lost his soul.
Knowing that she was a married woman, she was still entangled with the past.
After being "teased" twice by Wang Xifeng, he not only failed to see through fengjie teasing him, but instead fell deeper and deeper into his self-created "dreams".
Finally, Jia Rui, who fell ill in bed, got a mirror with the "Treasure book of the Wind and Moon" from the lame Daoist.
This mirror looks at the beautiful FengJie on the front, and on the reverse is a pile of skeletons and white bones.
The Taoist priest repeatedly told him to look at the opposite side, trying to persuade him to wake up in time and see the reality clearly.
But he was paranoid and obsessive, insisting on looking at the front.
As soon as he saw Wang Xifeng in the front mirror waving at him, Na Jia Rui was even more obsessed with the illusion and did not want to wake up.
As a result, he paid the price of his life for coveting the happiness of a moment of nothingness.
Echoing that admonition:
"Greed is like fire, and if it is not contained, it will burn the plains; if it is not contained, it will burn the plains; if it is not contained, it will be terrible."
The result of not having a sober judgment of reality and indulging oneself is to go further and further down the wrong path until it is self-destructive.
The eyes are the windows of the mind, and sometimes we must not only see the world through the eyes, but also distinguish the truth and falsity of the world through the heart.
The moon in the water, the flowers in the mirror, the things that are illusory, there is no need to be too intoxicated.
Only when you can see through your eyes can you not be fascinated by things.
As the saying goes, if you don't enter the game, you won't be trapped.
Otherwise, you will become a "frog in warm water", feel comfortable at the beginning, do not perceive your dangerous situation, and when you find out, it will be too late!
The eyes are broken, and the stomach can't stand it
After the eyes are broken, they still need to endure in the stomach.
If a person can't bear it, even if he can see it clearly in his heart, he will suffer deeply because he did not control himself in the end.
Shen Qifeng in the Qing Dynasty once wrote a story of "Fox Charming".
It is about a gorgeous and rich garden, where a fox demon is often infested, and no one dares to go near it.
One day, a scholar wanted to cool off in the garden.
A friend advised him not to approach the danger.
The scholar said confidently:
"The charm of the fox demon is only two points, the adulterer, the charm of Israel; Those who covet money, covet gold, I have no such good, only good books on the shelf. No matter how clever the fox charm is, why should I? ”
That night, the fox demon did not use wealth to seduce, but with the scholar to write poetry, talk about books and texts.
In the end, the scholar's soul was shaken, and within a few days, he was destined to return to Huangquan.
The scholar in the story knows that the fox demon will harm people, but he still does not control himself and is killed.
This is why you can see clearly, but you can't do it.
The ancients said it well:
"The husband sees the bait without the hook, and the tiger sees the sheep without seeing the well." Not to see also, obsessed with the beauty and not to take care of it. ”
What we lack is not the ability to distinguish between right and wrong, but self-control.
Wu Wangfucha knew that as the king of a country, he could not covet pleasure.
However, after meeting Xi Shi, he still sank.
In the end, it gave Gou Jian the opportunity to annex the State of Wu.
Liu Bei of the Three Kingdoms also understood that impulsiveness was a taboo for soldiers.
But after hearing the news of the death of the second brother and the third brother, he still did not control his temper.
In the end, Lu Xun succeeded in his plan and burned the camp for seven hundred miles.
They all understand that "small and intolerable is chaotic and big", but in the face of the actual situation, they still have not "endured".
Ancient Cloud:
"It is easy to break a thief in a mountain, but it is difficult to break a thief in a broken heart."
The greatest enemy that man wants to defeat is often himself.
The horse gallops thousands of miles without deviating from the route, because of the reins;
The same is true of people, if you want to go further, you must first learn to control yourself.
A person without self-control is destined to go far and may overturn the car.
I can see it in my eyes and endure it in my stomach
The Analects say:
"It is rare to have lost the covenant."
This means that a person who is good at restraining himself rarely makes mistakes.
If a person can control his words and deeds, he will not be confused by small favors and small favors, and will not be disturbed by human feelings.
No matter when you can be careful in your words and deeds, you will not be affected by external objects and live this life safely.
Pei Tingyu of the Tang Dynasty recorded in the Records of the Eastern View:
There used to be a Hanlin bachelor named Bi Cheng, who was very talented.
Therefore, he was deeply loved by Tang Xuanzong, and he was ready to use him as a higher-ranking official.
Although Bi Cheng was very happy when he found out, he also knew that the current prime minister, Ling Huxuan, did not like him.
If he gets in the way, there is no hope of his promotion.
After thinking about it, he decided to bribe the other party, so he found a very good-looking woman in Beimen Town and sent someone to send her over.
Ling Fox Xuan saw Bi Cheng's thoughts at a glance, categorically refused this "flattery", and sent someone to return the woman.
And he also warned his son:
"Special things hurt people. Bi Taiyuan has no points in me, and now he is bait me, and he will pour out my family too! ”
Later, Bi became a show of sincerity, wrote a blood letter to Ling Huxuan, and pleaded with him to accept it, so that Huxuan was always unmoved.
Ling Fox Xuan saw that Bi Cheng's gift was bait, and he could not bear not to open his mouth to bite the hook, which was the best way to save his family.
Zhuangzi said:
"Those who are deeply lustful, their chances are shallow."
This means that if a person is greedy, he will lose his wisdom and miss the blessings of life.
Therefore, when the King of Chu sent someone to invite Zhuangzi, who was fishing by the river, to become an official, Zhuangzi said unmovedly:
"I'd rather happily hold up the glans in the mud and wag the turtle's tail."
Glory and wealth are bait for Zhuangzi, and once he falls into it, he will be tired by the officialdom of open and secret struggle.
Only when people are strict with themselves at all times, so that their actions are stopped, and their hearts are guarded, can they "understand the breakthrough" and can "endure it" even more.

He is not wise that is not wise for himself.
Self-knowledge is to be able to see reality clearly, and after realizing the existence of danger, it can self-discipline in time.
I have seen such a story:
One fish was going to go out to play, and the others warned him, "Don't go out now, it's dangerous outside, there are people fishing by the river." ”
The fish replied:
"If I don't eat bait, how can it be dangerous?"
Life is always full of temptations, but these temptations are external.
The power of true temptation comes from within you.
It lies in whether you can see through it, and whether you can bear it after seeing it.
People who can't control themselves are easily enslaved by foreign objects;
People without self-control will also lose their future happiness.
Gentlemen have something to do, some do not do, can control their own people, life will not get out of control.
