Minjiang Estuary Wetland Release Report: Increase in Populations of Various Rare Birds Transferred from: CCTV News Client

In order to find out the existing bird species, population numbers and distribution in the Minjiang Estuary Wetland and provide basic data support for the local biodiversity background, on November 5, the Minjiang Estuary Wetland released the latest bird scientific research report. The report shows that the birds in the Minjiang Estuary wetland are mainly winter migratory birds, followed by resident birds, travel birds and summer migratory birds. Experts investigated and found that there are 9 species of birds protected at the national level in the mouth of the Minjiang River, namely: blue-headed diving duck, oriental white stork, black-faced spoonbill, spoon-billed sandpiper, small blue-footed sandpiper, black-billed gull, widowed gull, Chinese crested tern and yellow-breasted bunting. Among them, the largest population of black-faced spoonbills reached 137, the maximum number of spoon-billed sandpipers recorded in a single time was 3, and the maximum population of Chinese crested terns was 6, all exceeding their respective global population standards of 1%.

In addition, experts found 32 species of national second-class protected birds and 27 threatened birds in the minjiang estuary wetland, among which the critically endangered ones were spoon-billed sandpiper, Chinese crested tern, blue-headed diving duck and yellow-breasted bunting.

It is understood that this ornithological scientific expedition is the largest radiation range and the highest frequency of investigation since the establishment of the Minjiang River Estuary Wetland National Nature Reserve, which was launched in October last year and ended in October this year. With the completion of the first round of scientific expeditions, the second round of scientific expeditions to birds has also been officially launched.
