When the Nantong customs officer inspected a batch of imported cotton, a number of live spiders were intercepted in the container, two of which had red hourglass plaques on their abdomens. The "Brown Widow" geometric spider and the famous "Black Widow" belong to the same family of Kou spiders, which are also highly toxic, and after being bitten by them, they will have symptoms of poisoning such as abdominal pain, limb pain, nausea and vomiting, muscle spasms and so on.

It is reported that this is the first time that the Nantong port has found this species of spider in container cargo this year. At present, Nantong Customs has issued the "Notice of Inspection and Quarantine Treatment" to the batch of imported cotton in accordance with relevant regulations, and implemented fumigation and pest removal treatment to effectively resist the risk of invasion of foreign harmful organisms.
