The North American possum is the only marsupial inhabiting north of the Rio Grande in North America. When they are extremely alarmed, they will be close to falling asleep for up to 4 hours. When they are asleep, their mouths and eyes are open, their tongues are sticking out, they excrete green liquid from the anus, emitting a putrid smell, and the food that begins to "spoil" is no longer attractive to predators, coyotes, and can only look for other fresh prey, and the North American possum has escaped the disaster.
