Is the soft-tongued snail a brachiopod? Expert: NO

[Is the soft-tongued snail a brachiopod? Expert: No! Recently, @ Northwest University's Early Life and Environment Innovation Research Team's latest research results on the Soft Tongue Snail Fossil of the Chengjiang Biota were published online in the National Science Review and reported by People's Daily (Overseas Edition). The team rejected the conclusion that the soft-tongued snail belongs to the brachiopod crown group or the sister group of brachiopods, and believes that the soft-tongued snail should be placed in the crested animal stem group in the phylogenetic tree, and is most likely close to the mollusk. For the first time, the team reconstructed the internal tissue morphology of the shell of the straight tube snail in addition to the digestive system, enriching the internal anatomical information of the fossil. This achievement fills the gap in the anatomy of the mouth of the straight-tube snail fossil, adding new key softstone evidence to the systematic analysis of the soft-tongued snail fossil that has been debated for nearly 200 years.
