Guangzhou Customs intercepted the "exotic pet" beetle Wang Jiamei in the delivery channel
Guangzhou, 14 Jan (China News Network) -- According to the news of Guangzhou Customs on 14 January, the Guangzhou Post Office Customs, which belongs to Guangzhou Customs, recently intercepted 12 live rhinoceros turtles in an inbound mail, and has now been disposed of in accordance with relevant regulations.
On January 1, when the customs officers at the Guangzhou Post Office were supervising the incoming mail, they found that there was an abnormality in the X-ray machine image of a mail sent to a place in Guangdong and declared as a "plastic doll", which showed that the inside of the mail had multiple plastic containers of different sizes and showed a shadow of the suspected insect silhouette. After opening and dismantling, the customs officer found 12 plastic bottles of different shapes, each filled with waste newspaper and containing a live beetle.
After being sent to the relevant departments for identification, on January 6, it was confirmed that the 12 beetles were all rhinoceros turtles, one of the longest and largest beetles in the world, and their strength was extremely large, and they could lift objects that weighed 850 times their own weight. In recent years, the long-limbed rhinoceros golden turtle has been sought after by domestic "exotic" enthusiasts because of its unique appearance, and the number of cases of illegal carrying and sending into the situation has increased. The illegal entry of "foreign pets" may carry epidemic diseases and threaten the health and ecological safety of our people, and the customs has been strictly investigating and seizing them in accordance with the law.
Customs reminds that according to the Catalogue of Animals and Plants prohibited from being carried and mailed into the country by the People's Republic of China (Announcement No. 1712 of the former Ministry of Agriculture and the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China), live beetles such as rhinoceros turtles are prohibited from being carried or mailed into China. If you bring it into China, you must take the initiative to declare to the Customs, and provide the relevant competent administrative department of the state to examine and approve the license certificate and export the quarantine certificate issued by the official agency of the country or region, and only those who pass the quarantine can be released.
