After the National Day in 1975, Zhou Enlai, who was seriously ill, instructed his secretary to complete an unfinished business — to tell the editorial committee of the revision of "Cihai" that Yang Du, one of the "Six Gentlemen of the Preparatory Security Society", joined the Communist Party of China in his later years. When writing the character of "Yang Du", this historical fact must be written so as not to be obscured.
Who is Yang Du? He served as a Qing Dynasty official, participated in the late Qing Dynasty's reform law, and after his failure, he supported Yuan Shikai as emperor. In the first half of yangdu's life, he has been exploring the way to save the country, but none of them have succeeded. Why did such a person, who has gone through many twists and turns, finally choose the Chinese Communist Party?
In 1928, Yang Du wrote an inscription for the Red Flag, a publication of the Communist Party of China, indicating that he had close contacts with the Communist Party. After the ideological transformation, Yang Du gradually turned to revolution, and he became acquainted with Li Dazhao and other pioneers of the Chinese communist movement. It was through Li Dazhao that Yang Du began to come into contact with Marxism, and his heart rekindled the flame of saving the country and striving to be strong.
In 1927, Li Dazhao was arrested and imprisoned. In order to rescue Li Dazhao, Yang Du moved around and tried his best to maneuver, but in the end he did not succeed. After Li Dazhao's sacrifice, Yang Du was deeply saddened and moved by his great spirit of upholding the truth and seeing death as a homecoming. He sold his family jewelry and Qingdao real estate, and used all the proceeds to help the families of the victims, leaving behind a good story of "destroying the family to relieve difficulties" and strengthening his belief in joining the Communist Party of China. In the autumn of 1929, Yang Du completed the most important and final transformation of his life, and with zhou Enlai's approval, he secretly joined the Communist Party of China. Because of the complicated revolutionary situation, Yang Du's membership as a party member has not been made public.
After much verification, on July 30, 1978, the People's Daily published an article entitled "Unforgettable Memories", which clearly pointed out the historical facts of Yang Du's joining the Communist Party of China in his later years. Xia Yan, Li Yihao, and other revolutionary predecessors also published commemorative articles, and the truth that had been sealed for half a century was finally revealed to the world.
Today, opening the revised "Cihai", "Yang Du" reads: "Yang Du joined the Communist Party of China in the autumn of 1929 and insisted on party work under the white terror. These two short lines are the best consolation to this special Communist Party member.
