Black-throated Grebe in the Field Manual of Chinese Birds No. 1022 (scientific name: Garrulax chinensis): There are 5 subspecies with a body length of 23-29 cm, and it is a medium-sized bird.

The frontal base, eye front, eye circumference, and chin and throat are black, the frontal base is black with a white spot on it, the top of the head to the back of the neck is gray-blue, and the rest of the upper and lower body feathers are mostly olive ash to tan.
It inhabits evergreen broad-leaved forests, tropical monsoon forests and bamboo forests in low mountains and hilly areas below 1500 m above sea level, and is sometimes found on the edge of farmland, near villages and in secondary and shrub forests along the coast.
It is often seen in small groups of several or more individuals or more, and occasionally in individual and pairs. It feeds mainly on ants, bugs, beetles, weevils, walking insects and other insects, and also eats some plant fruits and seeds.
It is found in China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.
Listed on the IUCN 2012 Red List of Threatened Species ver 3.1 – No Threatened (LC).
It was included in the "List of Terrestrial Wild Animals Protected by the State or of Important Economic and Scientific Research Value" issued by the State Forestry Administration of China on August 1, 2000.
It is included in the "List of Wild Animals under National Key Protection in China" at the second level.
