Tianbao Rock Discovers New Year "First Bird"

On March 11, the spring of March, the weather warmed up and was full of life. A staff member of Yong'an Tianbaoyan National Nature Reserve photographed brown-capped bird in the shrubland by the stream in Jiulong Village, Shangping Township. This is the first newly recorded bird species monitored in the reserve in 2020.

It is mainly distributed in south China, central China and Taiwan. It is about 13 cm long and inhabits the shrub layer of evergreen and deciduous forests at medium to low altitudes. Although it is a resident bird and has a loud song, it is generally not easy to see because it likes to hide in the bushes to jump, forage, and rarely show its face. This species has been included in the "List of Terrestrial Wild Animals Protected by the State or of Important Economic and Scientific Research Value" issued by the State Forestry Administration on August 1, 2000.
