surprise! The black-faced spoonbills, a national first-class protected bird, appear in the wetlands of the Minjiang River Estuary

Located in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, the Minjiang River Estuary Wetland National Nature Reserve is an important station for the migration of migratory birds from East Asia to Australosia. In the past few days, as the temperature has gradually lowered, the Minjiang River Estuary Wetland has ushered in the first batch of winter migratory birds. What is even more surprising is that nearly 70 black-faced spoonbills, a national first-class protected bird, appear in groups in the Minjiang River Estuary Wetland.

The black-faced spoonbills, the black-faced spoon mouth, because the long mouth is flat like a spoon, very similar to the musical instrument lute, hence the name. Its population is extremely sparse and it is one of the most endangered birds in the world.

According to reports, black-faced spoonbills often move in the intertidal zone by the sea and in shallow waters on the shores of mangroves and inland waters, they like to live in groups, have a quiet temperament, and often leisurely forage in the intertidal zone or fish ponds and tidal flats on the seashore. Over the past few years, some black-faced spoonbills have remained in the wetlands of the Minjiang River Estuary, and experts have recorded a black-faced spoonbill with a ring number throughout the year.

Affected by the cooling, the first wintering cygnets were also ushered in the wetlands of the Minjiang River estuary in the past two days. Up to now, in the Minjiang River estuary wetland, the number of water birds such as spot-billed ducks, pintail ducks and bean geese that have migrated early has exceeded 1,000. The number of waterbirds such as the black-bellied sandpiper and the ring-necked sandpiper also exceeds 6,000. In addition, the staff also recorded a variety of national key protected animals such as the widowed gull, the white-waisted sandpiper, the white-bellied harrier, and some rare bird species such as forest eagles. As the temperature continues to drop, the Minjiang Estuary wetland will usher in the peak of migration, and the species and number of migratory birds will continue to increase.
