Eastern Fujian, the eastern part of Fujian Province, bordered by the East China Sea to the east and Zhejiang to the north, has been a military fortress since ancient times. At the beginning of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the people of eastern Fujian united to form an anti-Japanese guerrilla force to defend their homeland.
A large number of revolutionary fighters emerged, such as Deng Zihui, Tao Zhu, Ye Fei and other Communists, and under their leadership, the Mindong Soviet Government was formally established in 1934, located in Baizhuyang.
The revolutionary base area in eastern Fujian is known as the "last revolutionary base area" of our party in the south, and Bai Zhuyang also has the title of "Yan'an in eastern Fujian.". After the establishment of the revolutionary base areas, the central authorities sent Ye Fei to Fujian to support the work of the base areas and the guerrillas.
Ye Fei was originally from Fujian, very familiar with the local folk culture and geographical advantages, in the process of carrying out guerrilla attacks, he played his own advantages and strengths, but at the same time accompanied by danger, once he almost died.
Ye Fei's father, Ye Sunwei, was a native of Nan'an, Fujian Province, and was a well-known businessman in the local area. In the early 19th century, Ye Sunwei went to the Philippine town of Awang to make a living, and later married a local woman, and soon gave birth to two brothers, Ye Qicun and Ye Qiheng.
Ye Qiheng is Ye Fei's original name, he was sent back to China by his father when he was 5 years old, and then changed his name to Ye Fei. After returning to China, he studied at Xiamen Zhongshan Middle School, when new ideas and new culture sprouted and grew in the school, and Ye Fei's patriotic feelings were sublimated.
In 1928, at the age of 14, Ye Fei joined the Communist Youth League of China and began secret work for the party.
At that time, the CCP propagated the idea of resisting Japan and saving the country in the eastern Fujian region, and developed the local workers and peasants to actively join the ranks of the War of Resistance, and Ye Fei spared no effort to run in major townships, towns, and rural areas. Because of his outstanding performance, in 1929 Ye Fei was elected as the head of the Propaganda Department of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League.
At the end of 1932, the provincial party committee appointed Ye Fei to serve as an inspector in the guerrilla unit in the revolutionary base area of eastern Fujian. His main task was to conduct sneak peeks and gather useful intelligence information in the major local teahouses and restaurants.
Ye Fei received orders from his superiors to contact people in the guerrillas' underground transportation station and pass on information, but he almost lost his life when he went.
The work of underground parties and spies has a very strict system of secrecy, and each organization has its own set of docking processes. Some are specifically responsible for stealing intelligence, while others are responsible for passing it on to the upper echelons of the central leadership.
Then the organization has very high requirements for the person responsible for gathering intelligence, preferably this person can understand the local situation and speak the local dialect, so that the collection is much simpler. In view of this, Ye Fei, who was originally a Fujian native, took on this heavy responsibility.
Generally, underground party traffic stations will be set up in crowded places, which can not only cover up the joints well, but also quickly get out when there is danger. So Ye Fei's underground transportation station was set up in an inn called "Lion's Head Guest House" in Fu'an County, Eastern Fujian.
There is a Lion's Head Ferry Port 30 kilometers from the county seat of Fu'an, which is a must-pass place for Saiqi to Fu'an, so there are a large number of people coming and going every day. The Lion's Head Guest House is located at the ferry port, and this is the only one that has become the only option for tourists from all over the world to stop and eat again.
The mindong guerrillas also took a fancy to the bustling and lively scene of the Lion's Head Guest House. So Ye Fei often connected with people here, and the joint location was on the second floor of the inn.
That day, Ye Fei appeared in the inn as usual, and after he had made a round, he learned with keen insight that the person who was in contact with him had not yet appeared. In order not to arouse suspicion, he stood downstairs of the inn and pretended to be waiting for the boat.
Until noon, the comrade who was connecting with Ye Fei had not yet appeared. The boss saw that he had been standing here for so long before he waited for the boat, so he beckoned him upstairs to lunch. Ye Fei thought to himself, anyway, he also had to go up to the second floor joint, so he followed the boss up.
At this time, he was alone on the second floor, and after a while the boss brought the meal. When Ye Fei was eating, he suddenly heard the footsteps of "bang bang bang" sounding on the stairs, And Ye Fei thought that the person with the joint was coming, stopped his chopsticks and stared at the stairwell.
Who knew that he was waiting not for the connector, but for three people he didn't know. Ye Fei shouted in his heart that it was not good, and hurriedly threw down his rice bowl. As soon as his hand touched the gun around his waist, he was pressed on the table by the three people who were quick-eyed.
They didn't say a word, and after knocking Ye Fei down, they took out their pistols and fired a shot at his head, and Ye Fei was powerless on the spot, lying motionless on the table. Thinking that Ye Fei was dead, they retrieved a notebook from Ye Fei's body and flew away.
At this time, Ye Fei felt that he had regained a little consciousness, and the pain in his head was still there, but his ears could still hear the sounds around him. When he heard the sound of descending the stairs, he thought they were gone, so he moved hard, trying to lift his head.
This movement was seen by the last man who was about to walk down the stairs, and the man shouted, "The man is not dead!" So the other two rushed back, fired two shots at him, and quickly fled the inn.
After the gunshots rang out, there was chaos in the inn, and people came and went running toward the door, afraid of being implicated. I don't know how long later, the noise of the inn woke Ye Fei up, the pain in his body struck, he couldn't care less, dragging the seriously injured body step by step to the outside of the inn.
He climbed out of the inn with all his might, then collapsed by a ditch, and then passed out. It was not until late afternoon that the comrades at the traffic station a few kilometers away heard the news and came, and found Ye Fei fainting by the ditch, so they rescued him.
Ye Fei was also considered to be a great fortune, he was shot in the head and was still alive, and the two shots that were arrested in the back hit his chest and arm respectively. Comrades at the traffic station rescued him and carried him back to the village for medical treatment, but due to medical conditions, the doctor could only remove the bullet from his arm.
In order not to delay Ye Fei's condition, the leaders of the traffic station decided to send Ye Fei to the base area. However, at this time, martial law began outside the village, and when they smelled that the wind was not right, they rushed out to inquire about the situation.
Some comrades came back and reported that it was the Kuomintang special task force in Fu'an County who injured Ye Fei. They took Ye Fei's notebook and learned his true identity, so they returned to the inn to take down his head, but when the three of them arrived at the inn again, there was no trace of Ye Fei.
They concluded that Ye Fei might not have died, so the Kuomintang sent people to search for him, and they blocked the entrance and exit of the village within a radius of more than a dozen miles of Lion's Head, and carried out a large-scale search in the village. In this way, it would be even more difficult to send Ye Fei out.
After a week, the Kuomintang's precautions began to relax, but there were checkpoints at the entrances of the villages. The comrades at the traffic station came up with a clever plan, that is, to dress Up Ye Fei as a bride who was going back to her mother's house and carry him out in a palanquin.
They changed Ye Fei into women's clothes, wrapped the wound with a headscarf, and prepared a pair of small shoes of "three inches of golden lotus" to put on his feet, Ye Fei's feet could not be stuffed, so they brought a quilt to cover his legs, only exposing the toe of his shoes.
In this way, they carried the palanquin out of the house, and were interrogated at each level, but they were all dealt with by the sedan driver. In the end, they smoothly transferred Ye Fei to the revolutionary base area.
Here, Ye Fei received good treatment, and the doctor helped him perform surgery to remove the bullet from his head, but the bullet in his chest could not be removed for a while. Ye Fei was physically strong, and after resting for a while, he returned to the battlefield.
On the road of revolution, it is extremely dangerous and there are dangers to life at any time, but it is really fortunate that a person like Ye Fei can escape death.
