On October 30th, the first exhibition "Local City" of Beigou Village Tile Art Museum in Bohai Town, Huairou District, Beijing opened, and a renaissance about the countryside is taking place.
The exhibition of works in this art exhibition is not limited to the art museum, but uses the Mutianyu Great Wall and Beigou Village as the geographical background, and the public spaces such as Sanxi Boutique Homestay, Brickyard Hotel, Beigou Village Central Square, Fields, and Highways have all become "exhibition halls". The art tour begins in the countryside and ends on the Great Wall, throughout the lives of the villagers in Beigou Village. The villagers' aesthetic education classes have also advanced from books to reality. The installations, sculptures and oil paintings of top domestic artists have become neighbors of the villagers, and many elderly people in the village have realized the wish of "entering the art museum for the first time in their lives".
The opening ceremony, which opened with a "Story fm live" performance that integrated the oral history of Beigou villagers, was jointly narrated by three narrators living in Beigou Village, Wang Quan, Song Cuihong and Kan Dong, who represented the village cadres, villagers and new villagers of Beigou Village, and witnessed the historical changes of Beigou Village in the past 30 years from the poorest "Beixu" in Huairou to today's "Most Beautiful Village in Beijing".
The works of 14 Chinese and foreign artists are scattered in the village and presented to the public in different forms, guided by curator Cinnabar. Sui Jianguo's art installation "Dream Stone Returning to the Field" fell on the field vegetable field, Lei Lei's work "Hedgehog Head" appeared on the roof of the villagers' houses, Wen Ling's "Schindler's Restaurant" hung on the outer wall of the village committee, Liu Zhan's "Walking Man" stood next to the stone monument at the entrance of the village, three installations by artist Tong Kunbird were distributed in the caves of the tile factory, and there were art sculptures by Japanese artist Jin Shi Cheping in the courtyard of the Sansie Boutique Homestay.
The 70-year-old Zhang Wei uses a motorcycle to create live art on the highway next to the Wa Art Museum, using the earth as a canvas to convey speed, energy, power and passion. Entering the Wa Art Museum, you can also see the works of Artists such as Zhao Gang, Guo Hongwei, Ju Ting, Sun Manong, Zhou Yilun and so on. Mr. Liang Qiaobai, a well-known musician, specially created a local composition for this opening first exhibition, integrating the musical performance "Find Me Everywhere" with the natural world.
The story of villagers and urbanites enjoying art and beauty together at the foot of the Mutianyu Great Wall is the true meaning of the completion of the Wa Art Museum. From backward villages to the realization of a well-off society in an all-round way, and then to the change of lifestyle, it is one of the epitomes of the decades of poverty alleviation and prosperity in most rural areas in China. The transformation of Beigou Village, starting from environmental governance, to the emergence of the brickyard hotel, and now favored by foreign investors, it has embarked on a unique path of seeking beauty and prosperity with the pursuit of spiritual needs as the driving force.
The Tile Art Museum was built with the investment of the 2049 Investment Group. In the past ten years, 2049 Investment Group has founded and operated Beixu Shabu-shabu, Sansui Boutique Homestay in Beigou Village, acquiring and renovating the Brickyard Hotel. The establishment of the Wa Art Museum is not only the demand of the times, but also will profoundly affect the education and inheritance of the next generation in Beigou Village.

The Brickyard Hotel, a brickyard hotel at the foot of the Great Wall in Beigou Village, was formerly a glazed tile factory and later converted into a brickyard hotel. All the decorations in the room are natural to carve back to nature, and the oversized floor-to-ceiling windows allow you to see the beauty of Huairou autumn from any angle. In 2018, the Brickyard Hotel became one of the first Chinese rural heritage hotels jointly selected by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage of China and the China Ancient Sites Conservation Association, and the only heritage hotel in Beijing to receive this honor.
