On the afternoon of January 30, after we got our visas from the Consulate General of Nepal in Lhasa, we began to prepare for the departure to Everest Base Camp. Early in the morning of the 31st, a group of five people drove a Toyota Land Cruiser and headed west along National Highway 318. National Highway 318, which began in Shanghai People's Square, ran through five provinces and cities in Zhejiang, Anhui, Hubei, Chongqing and Sichuan by the time of Lhasa, with a milestone of 4670.
Not long after the Yang lake (Yang Zhuoyong Lake) passed, we arrived in Langkazi County, where we had lunch. The Karora Pass (above) at 5,245 meters above sea level is the first extremely high elevation we have ever crossed. It is recognized that more than 3,000 meters is a high altitude area, and above 5,000 meters is a very high altitude area. Arrived in Shigatse in the afternoon. The city is 3,850 meters above sea level and 200 meters higher than Lhasa. Stayed in Shigatse that night and slept soundly, which is currently the highest place to sleep on the ground. The mileage of 318 National Highway is 4966.
Originally scheduled to arrive at Everest Base Camp on February 2, the itinerary was abruptly changed the next day, and it was advanced by one day. When I left downtown Shigatse, I heard the episode "Dida" of "Beijing Love Story" on the road, which had lyrics that said, "Sort out your mood and start again." Not long after, we arrived at the 5,000-kilometer monument of National Highway 318, which is exactly 5,000 kilometers away from the zero-kilometer sign under the fountain of Shanghai People's Square.
National Highway 318 after Lazi and then to the west is the fixed day. Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world, is located in Dingri County. The photo below is the entrance to the Everest Scenic Area, the Gyatsola Pass. The scenic gate is lined with five-colored prayer flags. The monument on the left indicates that the altitude of this pass is 5248 meters, which is the second extreme altitude we have passed. Except for the strong wind, there is no other abnormal sensation.
Then there was a long road, and as I got closer and closer to Everest, my mood became more and more complicated, and I came to Everest Base Camp with a mission. The first time to go to the world's first peak at an altitude of 8844.43 meters, the center of the world in the heart, there is a sense of pilgrimage.
I believe that many people will see the real Everest for the first time will be here at the first observation deck of Mount Everest, although it is still very far from Mount Everest, but she can already be seen vaguely. In the movie "Call for Love at the Center of the World", Shuo and Yaji felt that Ayers Rock in Australia was the center of the world, and I always thought that Mount Everest was the center of the world. When I arrived at the first observation deck of Mount Everest, my feeling was that I had seen the center of the world, and I was about to touch the center of the world.
Second Observation Deck of Everest. The Himalayas can already be seen here, with the main peak being Mount Everest, called mt everest in Nepal. I only remember that the right side (west) of Everest is All over 8000 meters above The Hexia Bangma (8012 meters) in China, and the mountain on the left (east) is also above 8000 meters above sea level, but unfortunately, the lens is 17-50, so it can only show a mountain of Everest in this photo.
From the second observation deck of Mount Everest to rongbuk temple, it is another thrilling road. With the exception of the Toyota 4500, no other car can get from Rongbuksa Temple to base camp, although the road is not long. Of course, this also depends on the driver's skills, because the road is difficult to walk. From the ticket office to the base camp, it is said that there are 104 turns, three and a half hours one way.
Finally arrived at the first base camp of Mount Everest, the third extremely high altitude site. As with the Gyatsola Pass, there is no sensation other than strong wind, no physical discomfort. Of course, this does not mean that I am particularly good, because the people I am traveling with me do not have high reactions at these three extremely high altitudes, except that the lighter seems to be unable to use due to lack of oxygen.
Put your scarf and gloves all the way on the prayer flag in Tibet and take a photo in front of the not-so-tall monument "5200 meters above sea level", because this is the Base Camp of Mount Everest, which is a must-pass place to the center of the world, and you can also see the center of the world behind it. After more than 4,000 kilometers of long journeys and ups and downs, I would not have been here if you had not inspired me. As the lyrics say, "You raise me up, so i can stand on mountains," you inspired me so I could stand on top of the mountains.
