Beijing, November 4 (China Youth Network) -- Recently, the Guangdong Provincial Human Organ Donation Advocacy Volunteer Service Project, guided by the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, the Guangdong Provincial Civilization Office, the Guangdong Provincial Health Commission, and the Guangdong Provincial Red Cross Society, was launched in Guangzhou. The project is committed to using volunteer service as the carrier to improve the correct understanding of human organ donation in all walks of life and promote the development of human organ donation. Chi Zhixiong, secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Youth League, Gu Zuoyi, president of the Guangdong Volunteer Federation, and other leaders of the unit, as well as organ donation registration volunteers and representatives of loving enterprises, participated in the on-site activities.

As an organ donor, Zhang Mingyuan, a guest who shared the story of relay of life at the scene, will never forget the day of Mother's Day in 2012, when a mother donated her son's organs free of charge, and under the full treatment of experts such as He Xiaoshun of the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, Zhang Mingyuan successfully received liver, pancreas and duodenal multi-organ transplants and regained a new life. He said at the scene: "I am his (He Xiaoshun)'s work".
Stories of relay of life like Zhang Mingyuan have been continuing in Guangdong. For eleven consecutive years, Guangdong ranked first in the country in the number of organ donation cases. From January 2015 to September 2021, Guangdong completed a total of 4,599 cases of organ donation, donated 14,722 large organs, saved the lives of nearly 15,000 patients, and walked in the forefront of organ donation and transplantation in China. At present, there are 19 medical institutions with human organ transplantation qualifications in Guangdong, and some transplantation technologies have reached the international advanced level. As of October 2021, the cumulative number of voluntary registrations for human organ donation in the country exceeded 3.94 million, of which more than 470,000 were in Guangdong Province, and the number of voluntary registrations for organ donation also ranked first in the country.
In order to better promote the volunteer service work of organ donation behavior, the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and the Guangdong Volunteer Cause Development Foundation decided to jointly set up a special fund for the project, with the Provincial Volunteer Cause Development Foundation contributing 500,000 yuan as the starting fund of the special fund, encouraging units, enterprises and individuals to donate funds to carry out organ donation behavior advocacy volunteer service projects, and providing necessary humanitarian assistance and assistance for the families of organ donors with economic difficulties.

In this event, Badminton Olympic Champion Zhang Jiewen, Table Tennis Olympic Champion Liu Shiwen, Diving Olympic Champion Xie Sibei, and Guangdong Radio and Television Station Host Li Xiao served as volunteer service communication ambassadors for organ donation behavior advocacy, devoting themselves to organ donation advocacy work and raising public awareness of voluntary donation. Zhang Jiewen has completed the registration of organ donation volunteers as early as 2016, becoming the 115423 organ donation volunteer of the China Organ Transplant Development Foundation.

Guangdong is the main source of modern volunteer service in China, and up to now, more than 14.4 million volunteers have been registered through the mission of the "i volunteer" system. Carrying out volunteer service for human organ donation and vigorously publicizing and popularizing the knowledge of human organ donation will help increase the people's sense of identification with human organ donation, promote the social atmosphere and benign interaction of citizens' voluntary organ donation, improve the rate of organ donation in our province, and prolong more lives.
