Selvett discovered the human pulmonary circulation and why he was twice sentenced to the stake and eventually executed

author:Zhang Shengquan's wonderful history

Now, we know all the systems in the human body, know what each system in the human body does, and what does it do to the human body? Moreover, different medical subjects have been opened for different systems, and according to these, human diseases have been treated.

However, in the 16th century, a natural scientist was killed at the stake for his theory of lung circulation and the idea of monism. The natural scientist's name was Servet.

Servite promoted the development of science, why was he sentenced to death at the stake?

Servet was born in Tudela, Spain. Between 1535 and 1538 he studied medicine in Paris and studied anatomy. In the process of studying anatomy, he discovered a theory of lung circulation that subverted the medical theory that had been popular for thousands of years at that time.

At that time, the theory of blood movement was put forward by the famous medical scientist Galen in ancient Rome.

Galen's medical theory first proposed the term "three reiki". He believes that the human body has three kinds of aura: one is natural aura, one is life aura, and the other is animal aura.

He believes that blood is formed in the liver, and that food that has been digested first enters the liver from the intestines, where nutrients are converted into venous blood, and natural aura is added here. Then, the blood with the natural aura is transported from the liver along the veins throughout the body. Most of them are sent to various parts of the body and absorbed by the various parts of the body without circular movement. A small number of people will come to the right ventricle, and some will pass through the right ventricle, reach the lungs and then reach the left ventricle. When passing through the lungs, the exhaust gas and waste are discharged, so that the second type of aura is obtained, the life aura. In this way, the color of the blood changed from dark red to bright red. After the blood reaches the left ventricle, it flows through the arterial vessels to various parts of the body and no longer circulates. In addition, there is a part of arterial blood, it will flow to the brain, after reaching the brain, it will produce a third kind of aura, that is, "animal aura", with the arterial blood of animal aura, it will flow through the nervous system to all parts of the body, and it will also not produce circulation.

From here we can see that Galen's theory of blood movement seems very complicated, but he is almost completely entangled. However, since human dissection was not allowed during the Roman period, Galen could only perform animal dissection, and the data obtained were not accurate. At the same time, because of the theistic unified illumination, there will be such a statement.

In the process of conducting his research, Selvetter discovered the error of Galen's theory of blood movement that had been circulating for more than a thousand years, and he proposed a theory of circulation. He first rejected what Galen called Reiki, which he believed was produced in the lungs and was a mixture of most of the substances in the inhaled air and blood.

Obviously, this is a materialistic theory. At the same time, he first proposed that blood travels from the right ventricle through the pulmonary artery to the lungs and then flows through the pulmonary veins into the left atrium. Between the pulmonary arteries and pulmonary veins, they are connected by an invisible microvessel, and when the blood flows through the lungs, it is "processed" and the blood is clarified.

It can be said that this is a theory of pulmonary circulation that is relatively close to our current theoretical science, which is a very important scientific progress.

Of course, Selvette did not put forward the theory of the circulation of the whole blood at that time, but the theory of pulmonary circulation he proposed was already a very important breakthrough in the theory of blood circulation. The concept of circulation used by later generations also came from Servet.

After Servet proposed this theory, he put it in his manuscript. Of course, his manuscript is mainly not about the problem of blood circulation, but about theology. He believes that the theory of the "Trinity" spoken of in traditional religions is wrong. He said that "the Trinity is a hellhound with three heads" seems ridiculous. Servite belongs to pantheism, and he has a view that God is all things, and everything is God. He said that when we sit on a stool, the stool is also a kind of God. Someone asked him, is the devil God? He replied that the devil was also God.

We know that pantheism was in fact a cognitive theory of the world that came up early in humanity, and that Severt's suggestion at this time seems to be a cognitive regression. But on the contrary, he is trying to deny the existence of God, which can be said to be a cognitive progression. Coupled with the theory of pulmonary circulation that he once proposed, in short, he was moving in the direction of materialism. He is a scientist with a scientific spirit.

After Servitho made this point, he was sentenced to the stake by the French Catholic Inquisition for heresy. Selvet had to leave Paris to escape.

Although he escaped, the Catholic Inquisition in France tried him in absentia and burned his statue and his work, indicating that he was punished.

After leaving Paris, Selvetter fled to Geneva. He fled to Geneva because the religion of Geneva was relatively tolerant. The religious leader of Geneva was John Calvin, who was known as the leader of the Reformation.

Precisely because Calvin was the leader of the Reformation and was religiously tolerant, Selvetter wrote to Calvin, seeking refuge on the one hand, and hoping that his work would be published on the other.

Calvin and Servet wrote many times, and he refuted Selvet's theories many times, and certainly did not agree with the publication of Servet's work. However, neither of them agreed with each other, and in the end Calvin refused to speak to Servet again, but he allowed Servet to attend his sermon. It was also at the sermon that Selvitt once again proposed the anti-Trinity theory.

In 1553, Servit secretly published The Revival of Christianity. In this book, he put the theory of pulmonary circulation and the denial of the Trinity in the book.

Because of this, he was arrested by the Inquisition in Geneva and sentenced to a second burning at the stake in Geneva in 1553, along with his writings.

Although Selfet had a great deal of debate in court, religious persecution was severe at the time. As a result, the Inquisition in Geneva continued to sentence him to death. Serbia had no fear before dying, and he only said a faint sentence: "I have neither lied nor committed a crime." "And he was righteous.

When Darwin published The Origin of Species and The Origin of Mankind in the mid-19th century, although it was fiercely opposed by the Church at the time, the Church did not persecute Darwin personally. Obviously, science is unstoppable, and it will replace theology because of its scientific nature.
