Recently, a male red-billed diving duck was detected in the autumn migratory bird survey of Hengshui Lake National Nature Reserve, which is the first time that a red-billed diving duck has been detected in Hengshui Lake, and the number of birds in Hengshui Lake has increased from 327 to 328.

It is reported that the red-billed diving duck is China's three (beneficial, important economic value, scientific research value) protected birds, the individual is smaller than the spot-billed duck, the upper body is dark brown, the mouth is red. The underbody is black, the two sides are white, the features are very obvious, and it is easy to identify in the wild. It prefers to inhabit open freshwater lakes, rivers with slower flow, and ponds on both sides of the road, especially freshwater lakes rich in aquatic life. Feeding mainly by diving, the food is mainly the buds, stems and seeds of algae, eye vegetables and other aquatic plants.
Hengshui Lake diving ducks mainly include blue-headed diving ducks, white-eyed diving ducks, red-headed diving ducks, crested diving ducks, and the "appearance" of red-billed diving ducks, which further enriches the biodiversity of Hengshui Lake. Birds as an important indicator species of ecological environment, the emergence of red-billed diving ducks shows that the ecological protection of Hengshui Lake has achieved remarkable results in recent years, and the ecological environment has continued to improve, and it also proves once again the importance of Hengshui Lake in the north-south migration route of migratory birds.
