The National Science and Technology Awards include the five major awards of the Highest National Science and Technology Award, the State Natural Science Award, the State Technological Invention Award, the State Science and Technology Progress Award and the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of the People's Republic of China. The most eye-catching is the highest national science and technology award, and the 2020 national highest science and technology award was awarded to academician Gu Shufen and academician Wang Dazhong.
In addition, the State Natural Science Award awarded 46 projects, including 2 first prizes and 44 second prizes; 61 national technological invention awards, including: 3 first prizes (1 general project, 2 special projects), 58 second prizes (43 general projects, 15 special projects); 157 national science and technology progress award projects, including: 2 special prizes (2 special projects), 18 first prizes (10 general projects, 7 special projects, 1 innovation team), 137 second prizes (110 general projects, 27 special projects), 8 foreign experts and 1 international organization of the People's Republic of China International Science and Technology Cooperation Award.

2020 National Natural Science Award
The National Natural Science Award was established by the State Council of the People's Republic of China in 1956 and is under the responsibility of the State Science and Technology Awards Commission. Since 2000, the National Natural Science Award has only set up first and second prizes, and in 2003, a special prize was added.
The National Natural Science Award is awarded to Chinese citizens who have made major scientific discoveries in basic research such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, astronomy, earth sciences, life sciences, and applied basic research in the fields of information, materials, engineering technology, etc., to elucidate natural phenomena, characteristics and laws. The National Natural Science Prize is not awarded to organizations.
The awarding level of the National Natural Science Award is based on the scientific discoveries made by the candidates, and is comprehensively evaluated from the aspects of discovery, difficulty and complexity, creativity in theoretical theory, degree of innovation in research methods and means, academic level, promotion of discipline development, impact on economic construction and social development, positive citation of papers by others, evaluation of academic circles at home and abroad, and influence of major paper publications.

National Technological Invention Award 2020
The National Technological Invention Award is awarded to Chinese citizens who use scientific and technological knowledge to make major technological inventions such as products, processes, materials and their systems. In 2020, the State Technological Invention Award awarded 61 projects, including: 3 first prizes (1 general project, 2 special projects), 58 second prizes (43 general projects, 15 special projects).
Among them, 6 researchers such as Gao Wen of Peking University won the first prize for the key technology of ultra-high-definition video polymorphic primitive codec. In the second prize, 6 people including Sun Weifeng of Southeast University, 6 people including Baidu CTO Wang Haifeng, and 6 people including Ma Jianfeng of Xidian University of Electronic Science and Technology won the award for the key technologies and applications of high-voltage intelligent power drive chip design and preparation, the key technologies and applications of knowledge-enhanced cross-modal semantic understanding, and the key technologies and applications of data security in Internet of Things systems.
2020 National Science and Technology Progress Award
The National Science and Technology Progress Award is mainly awarded to Chinese citizens and organizations that have made creative contributions in the process of technological research, technological development, technological innovation, popularization and application of advanced scientific and technological achievements, promotion of high-tech industrialization, and completion of major scientific and technological projects and plans.
In 2020, 157 National Science and Technology Progress Award projects were announced, and a number of AI-related projects won the second prize, such as the "Intelligent Science and Technology Information Mining and Knowledge Service Key Technologies and Their Large-scale Application" project of Professor Tang Jie and Li Juanzi of Tsinghua University, and the "National Supercomputing Infrastructure and Support Software System" project of Professor Qian Depei's team.
