The woodpecker is a species of woodpecker in the family Woodpecker family that generally travels alone and often inhabits open sparse forests, bamboo forests, and forest edge scrub. It feeds mainly on ants, beetles and other insects, and rarely climbs the trunk like other woodpeckers.

The population of the spotted woodpecker is stable, and it has been listed by the State Forestry Administration in the "List of Beneficial Terrestrial Wild Animals Protected by the State or of Important Economic and Scientific Research Value", and the "Red List of Vertebrates in China" - non-endangered species.
Recently, when bird watching enthusiasts photographed in the Small Black Mountain Reserve in Longling County, Baoshan County, Yunnan Province, they accidentally recorded a bird that had never been seen before, and it was identified by experts as the "three haves" protected animal Spotted Woodpecker.
In Longling County, the Spotted Woodpecker has been recorded for the first time, and by this time, the number of woodpeckers in the Little Black Mountain Reserve has increased to 7 species, the other six species are: star-headed woodpecker, gray-headed green woodpecker, large gold-backed woodpecker, yellow-billed chestnut woodpecker, striped-breasted woodpecker and liè.
The emergence of the spotted woodpecker is not only the most powerful explanation of the local ecological environment getting better and better, but also lays the foundation for the analysis of local wildlife data and biodiversity research.
