On August 11, the beijing Municipal People's Procuratorate's official microblog issued a statement that the Film and Television Center of the Supreme People's Procuratorate would terminate the joint production of the TV series "The People's Mission" because the partner (Hunan Tianshang Film and Television Media Co., Ltd.) had "privately printed promotional materials with the background and characteristics of the TV series "In the Name of the People" at a signing ceremony with a company in Beijing, causing adverse effects."
On July 5, 2018, the Film and Television Center of the Supreme People's Procuratorate and Hunan Tianshang Film and Television Media Co., Ltd. formally signed a contract and decided to jointly produce the TV series "The People's Mission" (tentative name). However, from August 10, the Film and Television Center of the Supreme People's Procuratorate will terminate its cooperation with Hunan Tianshang Film and Television Media Co., Ltd. and revoke the relevant authorization.
The People's Mission is the second in the "People" series. In 2017, the drama "In the Name of the People", produced by the Film and Television Center of the Supreme People's Procuratorate, set a record for tv drama ratings in China in the past 10 years. The statement is closely related to the "Initiative on Strengthening Industry Self-Discipline and Curbing Unhealthy Trends in the Industry" issued by the Capital Radio and Television Program Production Industry Association on the 11th. On the same day, the three video websites iQiyi, Youku and Tencent Video also joined hands with 6 film and television production companies Noonday Sun, Huace Film and Television, Lemon Pictures, Ciwen Media, Yaoke Media, and Xinli Media to jointly issue a statement (hereinafter referred to as the "Joint Statement"), saying that they would "jointly resist the phenomenon of 'sky-high' remuneration for artists" and "jointly resist illegal acts such as tax evasion and 'yin and yang contracts'".
