Today (November 2nd) morning, the fourth edition of the World's Top Scientists "She" Forum opened. With the theme of "Working Together, Blooming 'Her Strength'", the forum invited Ye Shuhua, a famous astronomer and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Michael Levitt, winner of the 2013 Nobel Prize in Chemistry and vice president of the World Association of Top Scientists, and Linni Marquette, winner of the 2021 Wolfe Medical Prize, to attend the forum. Ma Liejian, chairman of the Municipal Women's Federation, delivered a speech, and Xu Feng, secretary of the Municipal Science and Technology Work Party Committee, made a concluding speech.
Xu Feng said that the "She" forum was held for the first time in the Fourth World Top Scientists Forum, which is an important case of "supporting female scientific and technological talents to participate in international scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation", which is of great significance. On behalf of Shanghai science and technology women, she proposed to the global science and technology community, so that gender equality can be implemented, vigorously select more female scientist models, encourage more women to devote themselves to science and technology, provide more opportunities and a bigger stage for women to participate in scientific and technological innovation, and make gender equality a code of conduct and value standards commonly followed by the global science and technology community. Help women solve their worries, put the protection of women's rights and interests in an important position, pay attention to the physical health, psychosocial needs and working environment of front-line female scientific and technological workers, and encourage the introduction of more relaxed policies and measures. Promote women to walk in the forefront of innovation, in the cultivation of high-level female scientific and technological talents, support female scientific and technological talents to innovate and start businesses, improve the evaluation and incentive mechanism for female scientific and technological talents, strengthen the cultivation of female reserve talents, and promote women's participation in global scientific and technological cooperation, etc., optimize the environment and create conditions, maximize the enthusiasm, initiative and creativity of women, and enhance their sense of gain, happiness and security.
With the theme of "Working Together and Blooming 'Her Strength'" and the keywords of "openness", "trust" and "tolerance", the forum jointly pays attention to the ways and paths for female science and technology workers to serve human well-being and achieve scientific and technological innovation and creation, explores the solution to achieve a more inclusive workplace environment, achieves the core goal of "making the international scientific research environment warmer, more open and more trusting", and creates a more open and inclusive future.
Let's take a look at the "She" forum
What are the golden sentences of the guest speeches↓
Michael Levitt
(Vice-President of the Association of The World's Top Scientists, 2013 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry)
We need to redefine the place and role of women in scientific research. In the face of current major issues related to human development, such as climate change, energy crisis, and environmental pollution, male and female scientists need to work together.
Ye Shuhua
(Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Honorary Director of the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences)
Feminine traits can make society more harmonious and beautiful. At home, women have to take care of their young and old; as scientists and engineers, women should actively show their abilities and strive for what they want.
Elaine Fuchs
(2020 Canadian Gérdner Award Winner)
Listening to the voices of women and those who are not good at expressing themselves, rather than just paying attention to the content expressed by those who have strong opinions, can make women and people who are not good at expressing themselves more and more courageous to express their views and participate in scientific progress together.
Han Hee-kwon
(Deputy Director, Submarine Science Laboratory, Second Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources)
I have been to the sea 19 times, as short as one month and as long as 3 months. Although it is very hard for women to go to sea, since I have chosen this path of scientific research, I am ready to overcome various difficulties.
Cao Xiaofeng
(Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, plant epigeneticist)
In the course of human history, women science and technology workers have always been on the front line of innovation and creation. With keen intuition, rigorous and meticulous style, and open and inclusive spirit of cooperation, they continue to achieve achievements.
